    The JSON support is more important than XML. I am not sure anyone voluntarily uses XML in an application design anymore unless there is a legacy constraint. Is this really a big issue still for you?

    I like the approach the SQL Server team took with JSON and just treating columns as varchar(max). The JSON functions are a better way to do this than baking in column type support like they did with XML which has become obsolete yet has to be in the database engine FOREVER.

    Think about languages like VB.NET that built in XML :( It easy to forget the hype around XML and how it got put into everything at that time way back when...

    Bottom line they could update this but who would the target market be and what ROI is there to touch this???
