    It's very cumbersome to click on the "Connect" link and have the foo.RDP file downloaded every time.

    I'd download it once (the first time), open the .RDP file using my favorite text editor (notepad++ works well) and extract the substring containing the FQDN:<port-number> in the first line (minus the keywords "full address:s:").

    I'd enter that identification string directly to RDP connection dialog box. If there are few enough VM instances, RDP would remember it among the dozen or so, and let me right-click it the next time. If not, I guess you'd have to record that string in some scratch pad for next time (still cumbersome).
