After a recent update (past two weeks), I too have had trouble importing Excel data into a MS SQL Server database. I am using a linked server. The data used to import just fine. Now, when I click "test connection" on all of my linked servers, they are failing. Here is the error message:

TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio

The test connection to the linked server failed.

An exception occurred while executing a Transact-SQL statement or batch. (Microsoft.SqlServer.ConnectionInfo)

Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0" for linked server "<private>".
OLE DB provider "Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0" for linked server "<private>" returned message "Unspecified error". (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 7303)

    I am using:

    SQL Server Management Studio 15.0.18118.0
Microsoft Analysis Services Client Tools 15.0.1300.131
Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 10.0.18362.1
    Microsoft MSXML 3.0 6.0
    Microsoft Internet Explorer 9.11.18362.0
    Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0.30319.42000
    Operating System 6.3.18362
