This turned out to be a blocker for us today.

Need to be able to capture one or more segments matched from the request URL and use them when rewriting the replacement URL.

Here's a typical sample, easily achieved with IIS URL Rewrite, Traefik, NGiNX, etc. so there are plenty of reference solutions / formats.

A very powerful and simple solution (albeit technical) is support for Regex with capture groups that can be referenced in the replacement pattern. Should cover most if not all scenarios.

Ultimately a simpler implementation to achieve the below would be awesome!

    Capture:
    {*:1}.yourdomain.tld/service/{*:2}/foo/{*:3}/bar

    Rewrite as:
    {:2}.otherdomain.tld/{:1}/service/{:3}/raw

The above would map from this:
    https://customer1.yourdomain.tld/service/forex/foo/43134/bar

    to this
    https://forex.otherdomain.tld/customer1/service/43134/raw

    Are 1000+ votes not enough?

The need was identified 10 years ago.
It took 6 years to listen to customers.
.. and we've been waiting 4 years for you to "prioritize your backlog".

I would be fired from my job for that.

You say tables are dead (unofficially) and CosmosDB is superior,
I would happily switch over to CosmosDB, but it's not my tables. It is *your* tables - we as a customer don't have the option to send Azure VM diagnostic data to CosmosDb.

Then you charge me for that diagnostic log data but you give me no option to control the log retention or costs.

Come on MS, get it together!

This is essential from a cost management perspective. Please implement ASAP. I reckon 500+ votes is enough of an indication that this is a needed requirement.
