Announcement:
General availability: Group based licensing
Announcement
We are excited to announce the general availability of the Group based licensing feature in our commercial cloud.
Feature overview
•Licenses can be assigned using any security enabled group in Azure AD (Synced on-premises security groups, Azure AD security groups and Office 365 groups with securityEnabled = TRUE).
•All Microsoft Online Services that require user-level licensing are supported.
•Administrators can disable one or more service components when assigning a license to a group, to allow staged deployment of products like Office 365 Enterprise E5 at scale.
•Developer APIs in Microsoft Graph to programmatically read group-based licensing assignments on groups as well as get assignment status and errors.
•Simplified licensing requirements for using the feature. Users who are targeted for group-based licensing need one of Azure AD Basic (and above), or Office 365 E3/A3 (and above).
