It's been well over a year since the response on this, has there been some progress in that time? The ability to delete by partition key would be awesome, especially for customers like myself who can't structure our data such that partitions are tables instead. Deleting millions of rows with EGTs, after querying them all out, isn't great!

I guess that the response to this will now be to use Azure Cosmos: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/cosmos-db/introduction

Issue first raised in Dec 2009, MS response in Dec 2016, currently Jan 2018. Any chance we could get an update on this?..

Regarding the OP, you can now do 'select' using query projection: https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/windowsazurestorage/2011/09/15/windows-azure-tables-introducing-upsert-and-query-projection/

Count is a lot easier using query projection because you can return just the RowKey instead of the whole entity, but still slow and wasteful.

    Contains is currently not possible.
