    For problematic kernels, the DB on the SMB share also has an error for the next operation.

    Cannot make the file "/smbshare/TEST7.mdf_MSSQL_DBCC6" a sparse file. Make sure the file system supports sparse files.

    The database snapshot for online checks could not be created. Either the reason is given in a previous error or one of the underlying volumes does not support sparse files or alternate streams. Attempting to get exclusive access to run checks offline.

    Step:
    1.Install Ubuntu 16.04.4

    2. Execute the following command
    sudo add-apt-repository "$(curl https://packages.microsoft.com/config/ubuntu/16.04/mssql-server-2017.list)"
    sudo apt-get update

    3. Install SQL Server
    sudo apt-get install mssql-server

    4. Create SMB share
    sudo mkdir /smbshare
    sudo mount -t cifs -o username=<UserName>,password=<Password>,sec=ntlmv2i,domain=workgroup,uid=999,gid=999,file_mode=0777,dir_mode=0777,vers=3.0 //<IP Address>share /smbshare

    5. Execute the following SQL
    CREATE DATABASE [TEST6]
    CONTAINMENT = NONE
    ON PRIMARY
    ( NAME = N'TEST6', FILENAME = N'/smbshare/TEST6.mdf' , SIZE = 10MB , FILEGROWTH = 65536KB )
    LOG ON
    ( NAME = N'TEST6_log', FILENAME = N'/smbshare/TEST6_log.ldf' , SIZE = 10MB , FILEGROWTH = 65536KB )
    GO

    USE [master]
    GO
    ALTER DATABASE [TEST6] MODIFY FILE ( NAME = N'TEST6_log', SIZE = 20MB )
    GO
    -> Error

    In the state of the latest version of Ubuntu, 16.04.4 (Kernel: 4.4.0-116-generic), in the state immediately after the installation, without executing the update, SQL Server was installed and the error reproduced did.
