    After 6 days(!!!) of having a support case open, the only option is to download a VM that we can no longer connect to and boot on Hyper-V. Here is the final email from support:

    ========================
    What we can do from Azure support is to solve or explain any issues presented by the Azure platform. We have been able to eliminate the platform as an issue on your case.

    For security reasons, we are not allowed to download or even access your VM for troubleshooting. It appears from the case history that you are in agreement that the issue is within the setup of the VM. Again, this is not something that we can investigate, as accessing your company’s VM could constitute a security issue.

    Due to this, the only option remaining for further troubleshooting is for you to download the VM yourself and examine it from a Hyper-V environment.

    I hope you can understand this. I apologize for the frustration caused by these policies.
    =====================

    12 hours to go on the VM download... we need console access NOW!

    Got a customer with two VMs that currently can't be accessed. Have created a support case but not good at all. At least with console access we could see if there is an issue with the OS, at the moment looking blind and 3 hours of down time so far...

    This is tricky to offer given some of the bin-packing needs of offering a public cloud service. We will continue to investigate the possibility of doing something like this.

    I've just lost a load of credit as VPN gateway was created but not in use. Have now deleted the gateway but means have to reconfigure it when need to use it again.

    Folks,

    Thanks for the questions and suggestions. And apologies for not sharing any update on this thread for so long. We’ve been working on this problem and have announced changes on our official team blog (see here: https://cloudblogs.microsoft.com/enterprisemobility/2016/09/15/cleaning-up-the-azure-ad-and-microsoft-account-overlap/).

    First, we are acutely aware of the UX pain this is causing and we are sorry for this. We are trying to undo a decade and a half of systems divergence. There are literally hundreds of different engineering teams across Microsoft involved in this effort. So this is taking time.

    Second, we can’t easily “merge” two accounts, or allow IT to “take over” personal Microsoft accounts. There are two main hurdles: (1) The terms of service are fundamentally different for the two account types and (2) they are based on different technologies with different stacks (different identifiers, SDKs, token formats, etc.). We’re working to converge the two stacks but again this…

    The status of this item has been moved back to Under Review. We initially planned to move to VHDX support as part of our support for HyperV Gen2 VMs, but we ended up using the VHD format for Gen2 VMs as well. Some aspects of the Azure Infrastructure do not cleanly support VHDX OS or data disks. So this feature is dependent on some of these internal services being updated which is an ongoing process.

    Hey Folks,

    We have made some great progress on this idea and most of our services today do support move resources across groups.

    We are still working towards 100% support and while we do that it would be great if you can help us prioritize the missing services.

    Please file individual asks on each service category present in uservoice and vote for it.

    Thanks,
    Azure Portal Team
