A checkbox during the VM creation time would be great. You could have a dropdown to be able to choose an existing vault and register the new VM for backups during the build time. If you need a certificate then perhaps that could also be uploaded / generated and applied to the VM to get everything set up. The only thing the user would have to do on the VM then would be to configure the schedule and folders to backup.

Thank you for your feedback. We view this ask as a set of related features.

Soft delete for blobs enables you to save and recover your data where blobs or blob snapshots are deleted. It does not protect against container or account deletion. This feature is currently generally available. You can see the announcement here: https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/soft-delete-for-azure-storage-blobs-ga/ and the full documentation here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/storage/blobs/storage-blob-soft-delete

Object versioning will also offer object-level protection, and will offer a few incremental improvements to soft delete. Specifically, it will make recovery of deleted data easier. This feature is planned for the coming year.

Container soft delete will protect against container-level deletion and modification. This feature is planned for the coming year as well.

Native support for blob backup will protect against account-level deletion and modification, and is currently on our backlog.

We will provide updates when they become available. For any further questions, or to discuss your…

This is a requirement for any enterprise-grade solution! Even the ability to view a screenshot of what is on the screen would be helpful to know if it is stuck / booted, etc. I'll take anything at this point since it has been over a year since this idea was submitted with no progress.

We will see whether there is a way to do this with the Current Windows Azure PowerShell and if not, what it would take to provide such functionality.

This is a great idea. We are thinking about adding such functionality to the Portal. No confirmed plan yet. Thanks.

Thanks for the feedback. We’ll look into this. Each service has their own auditing capabilities, but we can consider standardization, if that would be helpful for you. Let us know if you have any specifics you’re looking for or ways this could help you.

    Hi everyone,

We recently announce the General Availability of Azure Active Directory Domain Services (Azure AD DS) authentication for Azure Files! By enabling integration with Azure AD DS, you can mount your Azure file share over SMB using Azure AD credentials from Azure AD DS domain joined Windows VMs with NTFS ACLs enforced. For more details, please refer to our blog post:http://aka.ms/azure-file-aadds-authentication-ga-blog.

A part of the GA announcement, we shared the upcoming plan to extend the authentication support to Active Directory (AD) either hosted on-premises or in cloud. If you need an Azure Files solution with AD authentication today, you can consider installing Azure File Sync (AFS) on your Windows File Servers where AD integration is fully supported.

If you are interested to hear future updates on Azure Files Active Directory Authentication, please complete this sign-up survey:https://aka.ms/AzureFilesADAuthPreviewSurvey.

    Thanks,
    Azure Files Team
