This is something we have on our backlog and eventually plan to implement this but it is not on our short-term plan. Will mark this as under review for now as we will continue to review the comments and votes on this issue as we revisit feedback.

    Thanks for your request.

The following query doesn't work either and it is a similar issue:

    select c.id, t.value
    from c
    join t IN c.things
    order by t.value desc

It results in the error Order-By over correlated collections is not supported

Since we can't scale up, at the very list you should have the option to import a search index from another account/service

WTF?!?!?! We just hit a storage limit in the Basic tier and found out that we can't scale up! Most services in Azure allow you to scale up and out, why wouldn't this one support it? To make matters worse, we can't import data from another azure search service/account. Come on! This should be implemented right away regardless of the number of votes, this is what the cloud is all about, pay only for what you use! What scares me the most is what will happen when I reach the next limit....

Thank you for your feedback. While it is unlikely we’ll address this suggestion in the near future, we’ll reassess based on the number of votes it receives.

There are a few ways you can do this currently in code per document, for example (https://stackoverflow.com/questions/6544286/calculate-distance-of-two-geo-points-in-km-c-sharp). But we are considering how we might make it available as a document property.

    Thanks,
    Vinod

Many of the SDKs available since this original post have been updated to support more unit testing scenarios. The management libraries are testable, and we have aspirations to provide mocking capabilities but this isn’t fully completed.

I’m not sure about other areas of the SDK, for instance being able to mock the role environment or instances. We’ve discussed this in the past (and ongoing) and you know I’m a supporter of more testing features across the SDK landscape.

I’m marking this as “Started,” though, because all the areas of Windows Azure are committed to providing better testing features, and it is a very big priority for the ADX team that our SDKs provide the development community with good unit testing support. I’m not sure this one would ever be “completable,” as the platform keeps growing, but you can rest assured we’re addressing this more aggressively now.

Thank you for your feedback. I have discussed this in more detail with our team.

You are correct the workaround suggested to use .AsEnumerable().FirstOrDefault(). should not be a recommended work around. This way results in materializing all documents on the client first before getting the 1st document, which is not very efficient and the exact opposite of what you are trying to achieve.

Instead we recommend you use Take(1).AsEnumerable() and then .First() or .Single() or .FirstOrDefault() for Single() and First(). Take(1) is translated to SELECT TOP 1 and is processed server-side so more efficient than the previous suggestion and is what you are trying to achieve.

As to the original ask. The support for these operations can be done, but this work is not prioritized against the other work we want to deliver. I will move this back as unplanned but please note this is on our roadmap.

    Thanks again…
