    It might not be the answer that you're looking for, but the issue here is that the data stored is more similar to a bigTable / data lake setting, thus SQL might not be the best fit in this setting.

    The language used in the Analytics explorer (Kusto) is extensively documented for log analytics, e.g. https://docs.loganalytics.io/docs/Learn/Tutorials/Date-and-time-operations , there is also a pluralsight course available ( https://app.pluralsight.com/library/courses/kusto-query-language-kql-from-scratch/table-of-contents ).
    Regex search and count() are supported, although as you observed the query does differ quite a bit.

    I agree with you on the missing metrics for critical external dependencies, also missing redis cache metrics as well. I guess that would warrant it's own feedback item.
