Azure Reservations

  1. Reword the Microsoft Azure - Pricing Details.

    Here is your pricing example:
Example: If you have 1.2 TB of data in one instance, then the cost would be $30 plus storage consumed. You would be charged $10 for two 500 GB increments and $10 for the remaining 200 GB data.
So in the example I'll pay $10 for two 500 GB, and $10 for the remaining 200 GB data.
    This adds up to $20.
Were the pricing above it reads:
Instance > 500 GB $10 for each 500 GB increment + storage consumed.
Substitute the word 'each' for the word 'two' and your math will work.

  3. ability to convert from Pay-As-You-Go to RI

All users know upfront that RI is good savings over Pay-As-You-Go.

But as a user when we purchase an instance most of the time we are not sure whether the instance we purchase meets our needs, so the user purchase the Pay-As-You-Go to evaluate.

Eventually if they are satisified they would like to make a long term committment, thats when they will think about upgrading to RI.

But in Azure there is no availability of upgrade path.

It will be great if Azure could provide this option.

  5. Payment Option in Reservation

if we have payment option on Reservation like in AWS, it will be good for large instance payment. for example- i have H-Series instance and wanted reserved it for 3 year which will cost approx USD $12K. which is huge amount. if we have option to pay in monthly base that would be good.
you can make different charges for every options. eg. for H8 effective price PAYG = US$1.62/hours than,

    No upfront: US $1.60/hours
Partial Upfront" 50% as partial payment and 50% in hours base (US$ 1.00/hours)
All upfront: Full payment in Advance US$0.60/hours

  6. Launch More Like This

In AWS it is possible to click on almost any resource and select Launch More Like This.

This starts a wizard that creates another object / instance with similar configuration (E.G a VM of the same specification) as the object you are starting the wizard from.

  7. Floating IP to work as a VIP

    Hello,

I would like to have a way to provision a VIP form my Virtual Network so we can have a VIP to use on the keepalived configurations. It's all about Linux environment, and a good source of information about that is here:

    https://mariadb.com/kb/en/mariadb-enterprise/mariadb-maxscale-22-failover-with-keepalived/

The VIP is configured on keepalived that uses VRRP to move the VIP over a MASTER and a BACK instance of Maxscale, running on two separate Virtual Machines. The keepalived package is so set upon those both Maxscale boxes and will move the VIP. The application access the VIP, the connections are so passed to the…

  8. Hypervisor and Virtual Machine (VM) Status Check Metrics similar to what is provided by Amazon Web Services (AWS)

We also use Amazon Web Services and looking for metrics in Azure similar to the status checks which you can find here.
    http://docs.aws.amazon.com/AWSEC2/latest/UserGuide/monitoring-system-instance-status-check.html

As these allow us to monitor for problems such as the following and deal with them using automated runbooks or scale out our hardware :-

    System
    - Loss of network connectivity
    - Loss of system power
    - Software issues on the physical host
    - Hardware issues on the physical host that impact network reachability

    Instance
    - Failed system status checks
    - Incorrect networking or startup configuration
    - Exhausted memory
    - Corrupted file system
    - Incompatible kernel

  9. Provide more details in operation logs for "The server encountered an internal error. Please retry the request."

We have seen many instances when we get error message saying: "The server encountered an internal error. Please retry the request."

But even after several back to back retries we get same error.

After talking with azure support and investigating other operations in logs, issue seems to be pending operations running on the azure cloud service. As pending operations are taking more than expected time to finish, new operation is giving error.

But the error message does not provide any help.We should add some more error details to error message.

  10. Create a Guaranteed VM Capacity offering similar to AWS' OnDemand Capacity Reservation.

AWS has an OnDemand Capacity Reservation offering which allows you to guarantee compute capacity even when machines are not running / allocated. This offering could protect certain critical business or governmental environments that require this capacity on-demand (e.g. environments with frequent redeployments). This would have protected certain environments during the current Covid-19 pandemic and resultant Azure compute capacity constraints.

  12. Please make Reserved Instances available for Taiwan Pay-as-you-go Customer

Currently, the reserved instance for Pay as you go subscription is not available for Brazil, India, China, Taiwan, Russia, Korea, Argentina, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Liechtenstein, Malaysia, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and Turkey.

However, customers from above regions are expecting to have RI benefit.

Please make Reserved Instances available for Taiwan/Hong Kong/China Pay-as-you-go Customers.

    Thank you!

  13. allow Microsoft Sponsored Subscriptions the same privileges as the same as pay-as-you-go subscriptions

Currently, when a Microsoft Sponsored Subscription ends, the customer is converted to a Pay-as-you-go subscription. Unfortunately, the sponsored subscriptions do not have the same privileges as pay-as-you-go subscriptions, thus can't truly evaluate the platform. If they were the same, it would allow people to properly experiment with the service and become more familiar with the actual usage rates they would expect when they move to a true pay-as-you-go plan.

Specifically, I am trying to utilize Reserved Instances, a feature of Azure that would help me better understand my monthly billing rate. This feature isn't available to sponsored accounts, and as…

  14. Ability to roleback deployments done using ARM templates

When deployments are done using ARM templates, currently there is no way to remove that deployment and all associated resources. While MS seems to suggest " All of the resources in your group should share the same life cycle" there are instances this is not always the case. Would be good to be able to see all deployments (deployment history) in the portal and be able to select and remove all resource associated to selected deployment (like AWS cloud formation)

  15. Check Pause/Resume status of DataWarehouse using T-SQL

It is great that I can check the scaled performance level of my data warehouses using a T-SQL query from the Microsoft SQL Azure master datebase:

    SELECT db.name, ds.edition, ds.serviceobjective, db.statedesc
    FROM sys.databaseserviceobjectives ds
    JOIN sys.databases db ON ds.databaseid = db.databaseid
    WHERE ds.edition = 'DataWarehouse'

Please make it possible to check the true state of the data warehouse as well. This query always reports the data warehouse to be 'Online' even when it is really in a 'Paused' state.

P.S. For the life of me, I can't understand why this functionality isn't already built…

  16. Separate the RI order charege from consumpiton base services on usage summy of EA portal

Currently, the EA usage summary is categorized into three parts, Azure service, Charges Billed Separtely, and Azure Marketplace. The RI bills is included in Azure servics. Since RI is prepaid plan and differ from consumption base servics . Is it possible to divide from others?

  18. Permit Internet browsing via Point-to-Site VPN via an Azure DC instance

I'd like to be able to create a VPN-Gateway which will permit a Point to Site VPN connection where the Site traffic will be routed over the VPN (easily done via routing tables on client) but then be able to access the Internet from the Azure VPN-Gateway DataCenter (DC) as configured.

For example, a site-to-vpn connecting to the US West2 DC then being able to browse the Internet from the US West2 DC. We use similar services with consumer grade VPN gateways for testing application performance; however their performance / reliability fluctuates.

I did open a support ticket on this…

  19. Ability to see the VMs that got the Reservation (RIs) under All Resources>Reservations>ReservationsID

It's time consuming to follow the below document to find the VMs that got the reservations.

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/billing/billing-understand-reserved-instance-usage

We request you to make this feature available under All Resources>Reservations>ReservationsID. Right now it shows the Usage but it doesn't show the VMs that got the reservation or which VMs are using the RIs purchased.

  20. Add a confirmation button on reservation

When you do reservation simulation in the portal it is easy to click on the wrong button and do a reservation by mistake instead of calculating the price...
It occured to me so a confirmation button would be great to avoid this kind of "interface forced your hand on the purchase"
