Azure Reservations

  1. Managing permissions for Azure Reserved VM Instances using Powershell needs to be developed

Currently in order to grant permissions(ex : Reader Role) on existing Azure Reserved VM Instances, one has to navigate to the IAM manually and select each Reservation(id) and grant the required permissions as stated in the link(https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/billing/billing-manage-reserved-vm-instance)

This process will be hectic when tenant has Reservation Id's in 100's or even below 100. This needs to be managed more easily via powershell.

  2. cloud service reserved instance (RI)

When selecting Azure Reservations (Reserved Instances) the recommended quantity does not include any Cloud Services you are running.
It would be nice if the portal recognised cloud services.

  3. Please make Reserved Instances available for Taiwan Pay-as-you-go Customer

Currently, the reserved instance for Pay as you go subscription is not available for Brazil, India, China, Taiwan, Russia, Korea, Argentina, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Liechtenstein, Malaysia, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and Turkey.

However, customers from above regions are expecting to have RI benefit.

Please make Reserved Instances available for Taiwan/Hong Kong/China Pay-as-you-go Customers.

    Thank you!

  4. Provide hourly consumption data on my Reserved Instances

At the moment the Azure billing API provides a daily aggregation for RI usage. This is great, I have enough data to calculate the cost if I wanted to.

What it doesn’t tell me is when the virtual machine was run (time of day).

    Why is that important?
I want to know how many virtual machines run at the same time (max count per hour).

    Why?
I want to purchase reserved instances based on the maximum concurrently run in an hour, as opposed to how many ran throughout the day. This information will help me make a more informed decision…

  5. Make Reserved Instances available to PAYG subscribers in all regions

Please expand the reserved instance offering to all regions. Currently, the FAQ states: "The reserved instance for Pay as you go subscription is not available for Brazil, India, China, Taiwan, Russia, Korea, Argentina, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Liechtenstein, Malaysia, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and Turkey."

  7. Please allow me to select multiple VM sizes/regions at once when purchasing reserved instances

Up until a few days ago, I was able to select as many reserved instances to purchase at once from Reservations section of the portal. This feature was removed, with no plan to put it back, per Microsoft Support. We're about to purchase reserved instances for approx. 50 VMs, spread across multiple VM sizes and three regions. Being able to see the total Compute cost of the reservation commit on one screen makes for a much more easily parsed total, as well as saving me time on putting together individual reservation orders for each size, in each region.

  8. allow the option to keep purchased RIs on CSP Azure subscriptions to stay in effect even when such azure subscription moves between partners

currently there is no option to keep an RI active on an azure subscription acquired through CSP (and future modern?). Result is that current partner, new partner and customer need to figure out how to cancel the exisitng RI, re-purchase a new RI with new term after transition happened, etc.. As RIs are paid upfront, it would be good for everyone if in such scenario there can be an option where the RI remains effective on the moved subscription(s).

  9. ability to convert from Pay-As-You-Go to RI

All users know upfront that RI is good savings over Pay-As-You-Go.

But as a user when we purchase an instance most of the time we are not sure whether the instance we purchase meets our needs, so the user purchase the Pay-As-You-Go to evaluate.

Eventually if they are satisified they would like to make a long term committment, thats when they will think about upgrading to RI.

But in Azure there is no availability of upgrade path.

It will be great if Azure could provide this option.

  10. Manually assign VMs to Reserved Instance reservation

To be able to manually assign VMs to RI will guarantee that the paying business unit or VM owner will get the discount benefit.

  11. Create the ability to give permissions to all subscription reservations to a single principle.

We would like to have the ability to give permissions to all Reservations within a single EA to a single principle. This would include Enterprise Applications, Users and Groups.

From what we can tell, when Azure created the Reservation capabilities in their platform, they introduced a new abstract layer of authorization strictly around the Reservations themselves. When reservations are created the only people allowed to view them are the Owner of the subscription that the Reservations were created within, and the user that actual purchased the reservation.

The primary limitation to this method is that there is no a way…

  13. link the reserved resources such as VMs per resource ID to the services that request them. The current system is not user-friendly.

When choosing to reserve resources over a longer period and to benefit from a discount by committing to allocate resources over 1/3 years, the way that Azure does it is really not transparent and not user friendly.
First of all, it should be possible that a resource like AKS offers the option of creating a cluster for 1/3 years instead of requiring the user to create the underlying VMs first and have them "automatically" be assigned to the AKS, so long as the VMs are of the same type.
Also, what if another user that has access to the subscription…

Thanks for the valid suggestion. Your feedback is now open for the user community to upvote which allows us to effectively prioritize your request against our existing feature list and also gives us insight into the potential impact of implementing the suggested feature

  14. Put a name to the Reserved Instance while making the purchase

In the past, I was able to put a friendly name while purchasing a Reserved Instance but, with the new experience it seems that this is a challenge and I can rename it after I make the purchase which is a waste of time.

  15. Enable reporting on expired Reservation through Consumption API

    Hello,
Currently when using the Consumption API to track usage charges for Reserved Instances, if the reserved instance has expired it loses the ability to report on previous dates when the Reservation was still active.

Example: If a reservation expires on April 1st, and I call the consumption API on April 2nd to provide usage details for any days prior to April 1st, the reservations that were active prior to expiration do not show any usage.

  16. Change the subscription reservation page back to a single page form

Why was the reservation form in the portal changed from a nice simple one page form into a three page monstrosity that no longer allows you to name the reservation on creation?

I would suggest you change it back to the simple one page form and also create a way to do this programmatically.

  17. Virtual Machine consumption instance type & OS billing breakout

Users need to be able to easily report Azure VM usage by instance type, OS and region for analytics and RI and pricing analysis, and AHUB reporting. The Instance type and OS are buried in the "Additional info." field and not easy to extract due to inconsistent formatting, and is not always populated. Users need the Instance type and OS broken out in separate fields along with the the region that is today. The same would be true with SQL DB to distinguish info other than the product name which is not always at the level needed. We have not…

  18. M series VMs in North Central US

SQL server virtual machines require a higher RAM/CPU (M series in North Central US) ratio than can be supplied using the standard VM sizes. Constrained CPU sizes were introduced to address this issue (eg E Series). Since the standard E and D series machines can be reserved please also allow the RAM constrained versions to be reserved so we can control workload of SQL server VMs.

    An ETA would be helpful.

  20. Global Admin should have capability to view Reserved Instance reservations.

Global admins SHOULD be able to view (or at least manage permissions) of Reserved Instance reservations in the Azure portal. Currently, only the purchaser and account owner can manage the permissions. This is contradictory to everything else in Azure, where a Global Admin alywas has the capability to change permissions (acting as a User Access Administrator).

On a secondary note, Read-only admins in the Enterprise Agreement portal should also have the ability to view reserved instance data.
