  1. Flexibility of Changing the Role Instance Size on demand

It is Good to have the flexibility of changing the Role Instance Type from one size to another size [Ex:- A2 to A4] on demand on Cloud Services without service disruption or redeployment.

  2. Ability to apply a reserved IP to an existing cloud service

There are two issues with reserved IPs and cloud services.

    1. You cannot apply a reserved IP to an existing cloud service without downtime. This feature was promised months ago and no communication since then of when it might be available.

    2. No guidance on how to use the reserved IP with production/staging environment. It seems like you cannot use the staging environment anymore if you use a reserved IP (https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/azure/en-US/e7bf1905-c4f7-4b24-8566-6a015171073c/unable-to-use-the-staging-environment-with-a-reserved-ip?forum=windowsazuremanagement)

Microsoft needs to address these issues so that SAAS applications with thick clients can be used in Corporate environments where they need to create firewall rules by ip address…

  3. Don't drop existing TCP connections when scaling cloud service up/down for instances not involved with the scaling operation.

I have a runnning instance in a cloud service accepting long term TCP connections. When the service scales UP, all existing connections are dropped for the existing instances. Also, connections are dropped at an early stage, when the new machine is still booting. Result: all clients reconnect to the already existing machines, and the traffic is not distributed to the new instance.
    Suggested sequence:
    1. Start the new instance
    2. When the new instance is ready to accept traffic add this instance to the list of eligible instances for receiving new connections..

  4. Conformation popup while deleting the virtual machines

    Hi,

In Azure, while deleting storage account, a popup comes up for the conformation and the user has to enter the name of storage account which he intended to delete. This is nice feature for storage, because the user may not delete the storage account unknowingly. In case of virtual machines, the user may delete the virtual machines/cloud services even unknowingly. So we are expecting a feature as available for Storage account, a conformation popup feature. Deleting instances is irreversible, so a conformation popup needed while deleting virtual machine(even though there is option to keep vhd/delete attached disks ).

  5. Refine Azure's Connection String vs Linked Resource story.

Why are 2 steps required to connect a website with an Azure SQL instance? I've never come across the concept of Linked Resource as pertains to on-prem IIS and am having problems getting my head around a couple concepts:

A connectionstring seems to be non-functional without a matching Linked Resource and vice versa - demands the question: Is there ever a situation where you'd have a connection string without also having a matched Linked Resource?

There should also be a PowerShell way to link / unlink resources.

  6. Add the xtra small standard website instance, and make the pricing very aggressive

Currently, Standard Websites are only available as Small, Medium, and Large VM instances. For a company just starting out, the free plan isn't going to be used, for fear one would hit the limit and have interruptions of service.
The Small plan, at approximately $75/month, is a bit pricey, but is necessary to get out of the problems that shared websites can have.
An extra small instance could fill a gap there, allowing one to get out of shared plans, but at the same time, fitting nicely in the business plan before upgrading to a small instance.

    -thanks

  7. Fix the SQL Database calculator (full calculator)

It doesn't relate to the SQL Database pricing page at all. It quotes instance size A0-A9 where as the SQL pricing page talks about S0, S1, S2. I think the calculator is broken.

  8. Permission set per Management Certificate

It would be great to be able to configure which of the management APIs a specific management certificate is allowed to use. Currently there is no real difference between certificates, so having multiple are of limited value.

If management certificates are treated as roles, then it would provide many configuration options and better security w.r.t. how certificates can be used.

I could for instance create a certificate that only allows existing virtual machines to be started, but nothing else and then deploy that with an application, to a perhaps-not-fully-secure environment, without the danger of allowing someone who gets hold of…

We have some changes coming to our platform that will affect how clients can authenticate. Stay tuned for more details.
