Azure Reservations

  1. Combine Premium and Standard SKUs on VM RI

As it stands, there is no difference between an Ev3 and an Esv3 except you cannot add Premium disks to the Ev3. So everyone will just use a RI for the Esv3. If they want standard disks no problem.
Why not remove 50% of all your SKUs (from RI) and just combine them.
I know you can do a free swap from one to the other, but we all like larger pools.

  2. Add more quantities to existing reservation Orders rather than purchasing a new one

Add more quantities to existing reservation Orders rather than purchasing a new one. The current design does not allow you to add reservations and there is a new to purchase a new RI which would create a new Reservation Order ID. Adding the feature of updating quantities will help large Organizations as this will eliminate the need of having multiple reservations for the same SKU.

  3. Make a reserved instance when creating / deploying a VM

It would be nice to make a reservation when you're creating or deploying a VM in Azure. It would also be nice to check if a VM / compute has been reserved when you're within the resource in Azure.

  4. Make Reserved instances visible via Lighthouse

Currently, you can only see RI's based on the tenant context and not overall across other tenants/subscriptions like you can with other items. Currently, I have to log directly into each customer tenant portal to view RI's for that customer.

  5. Reservation usage alerts

I'd like to have the ability to get alerted when reservations goes under a certain usage threshold.

e.g.: Alert action group X when reservation usage falls under 95% for more than Y days

  6. Allow EA admins or Account admins to select the Accounts where RI need to be applied for Shared scope when it comes to EA

Allow EA admins or Account admins to select the Accounts where RI need to be applied for Shared scope when it comes to EA. Current design is to apply RI to any account when shared scope is selected and this makes it difficult for calculating charge back for big companies that have multiple company entities under one EA Enrollment

  7. Instance size flexibility for app service reservations

Works great for VMs. We scale all the time in response to client traffic. Can we apply the same instance flexibility for the Premium V3 app service plans?

  8. More flexible RI Scope

The current possibilities in Azure RI scoping is inflexible and do not represent company/enterprise structures.

I will describe it by the example of our use case:
We are three big companies in one tenant that belongs to the enterprise above. But the companies themselves are acting completely independently and do have hardly any interfaces when it comes to Azure resources. The infrastructure is managed by three different IT departments.

My idea was to have an RI pool available for all subscriptions in the responsibility of my company. But when i use RI-scope "shared" these reservations are also grabbed from VMs…

  9. Please let RI(scope as single subscription) and Azure usage be listed in the same invoice

When one account has multiple PAYG subscriptions and RI, it's hard to calculate Azure usage with RI cost for each subscription. Even customer has set RI scope as single subscription.

    [suggestion]
Please let RI(scope as single subscription) and Azure usage be listed in same section in the same invoice.

if not, please let Azure cost management support PAYG customer to see Azure usage and RI cost. Currently it only supports EA customer.

    Reference:
    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/cost-management-billing/costs/understand-cost-mgt-data
"Cost Management includes all usage and purchases, including reservations and third-party offerings for Enterprise Agreement (EA) accounts. Microsoft Customer Agreement accounts and individual subscriptions with pay-as-you-go…

  10. Provide a published policy for Reserved instance resource downgrades.

Business needs to plan for the future and minimize costs and risk.

If I subscribe to a 36 month reserved instance I receive a nice discount on the resources.

if I need to downgrade the resource or switch from VM app delivery model to a App Service delivery model I would need to cancel the VM Reserved instance (RI). Currently Microsoft charges no early termination of the RI. However they could change that at any moment and charge a penalty at any moment. That introduces unknown financial risk as you do not know how severe that might be.

    For example:

  11. Add API endpoints for reservation data and consumption to JAVA SDK

The current JAVA version of the Azure SDK at the time of writing does not include the implementation to call reservation data APIs.
To manage our growing Azure landscape at scale and keep manual maintenance of our custom management tool to a minimum we require access to this data via SDK.

  12. Reservations for Standard Tier (s1,s2) App Services

Include purchasing Reservations for App Services on Standard Tiers in addition to the Premium Tiers (already purchasable).

    Why?

    1) The performance/cost benefit between s2 vs p1 and p2 is not compelling for many users - especially those that don't already consume a lot of memory or ACU's on s2.

    2) increase purchase of Reservations of course! Extending Reservations to standard tiers will enable Microsoft to see more Reservations.

  13. Enterprise Admins should be given the ability to assign users access to reservations and transfer reservations

In managing a large enrollment with several different tenancies often subscriptions need to be transferred to different accounts when staff move or leave the organisation. The transfer of a reservation is currently a support request. Ideally the transfer of the reservation and subscription would be coordinated so that no reserved hours are lost. Sometimes subscriptions and reservations need to be transferred to a different tenancy so this needs to be supported. In addition if staff are suddenly unavailable then the Enterprise Admin should be able to assign access to a reservation to another user. Appreciate there might be a view…

  16. Create a Guaranteed VM Capacity offering similar to AWS' OnDemand Capacity Reservation.

AWS has an OnDemand Capacity Reservation offering which allows you to guarantee compute capacity even when machines are not running / allocated. This offering could protect certain critical business or governmental environments that require this capacity on-demand (e.g. environments with frequent redeployments). This would have protected certain environments during the current Covid-19 pandemic and resultant Azure compute capacity constraints.

  17. Allow Reservations for Sponsorship Subscription

Currently this is not possible. While it's great that Microsoft offers an $3,500. credit toward Azure services for qualified Non-Profits it gets eaten up quickly for VMs that are setup permanently on Azure. Microsoft should allow VM Reservations for Sponsorship Subscriptions which will allow their credit donation to go furthe

  18. Align reservations and Meter

Microsoft distinquished various product families for reservations. However, in the reporting and dashboards product families are mixed, which makes it hard to define reservation volumes.
As an example: You can buy D_v2 and DSv2 reservations. In the billing file and the cost analysis dashboard you see only D*v2/DS_v2 items. Even the MeterID and the Partnumber are equal for Dv2 and DS*v2 (as is the unit cost). So, why distinquish between products and reservations and group everything together in the reporting and dashboarding. Appreciate a straight approach here, to be able to manage reservation volumes.

  20. Cost Reporting on Reserved Instances to compare cost of PayAsYoGo against Reserved Instance to show you are getting the estimated savings.

We need to be able to report to Finance on the cost savings of Virtual Machines and Reserved Instance purchases, for example the pay-as-you-go cost stacked against the Reserved Instance purchases. This includes usage reporting, allocating percentages, across multiple Subscriptions that are using Shared RI's under the same EA.
