Azure Reservations

  1. Make Reserved Instances available to PAYG subscribers in all regions

Please expand the reserved instance offering to all regions. Currently, the FAQ states: "The reserved instance for Pay as you go subscription is not available for Brazil, India, China, Taiwan, Russia, Korea, Argentina, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Liechtenstein, Malaysia, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and Turkey."

It would great to tag reservations similar to most other existing resources in Azure

  3. Create the ability to give permissions to all subscription reservations to a single principle.

We would like to have the ability to give permissions to all Reservations within a single EA to a single principle. This would include Enterprise Applications, Users and Groups.

From what we can tell, when Azure created the Reservation capabilities in their platform, they introduced a new abstract layer of authorization strictly around the Reservations themselves. When reservations are created the only people allowed to view them are the Owner of the subscription that the Reservations were created within, and the user that actual purchased the reservation.

The primary limitation to this method is that there is no a way…

  4. Cost Reporting on Reserved Instances to compare cost of PayAsYoGo against Reserved Instance to show you are getting the estimated savings.

We need to be able to report to Finance on the cost savings of Virtual Machines and Reserved Instance purchases, for example the pay-as-you-go cost stacked against the Reserved Instance purchases. This includes usage reporting, allocating percentages, across multiple Subscriptions that are using Shared RI's under the same EA.

  5. Align reservations and Meter

Microsoft distinquished various product families for reservations. However, in the reporting and dashboards product families are mixed, which makes it hard to define reservation volumes.
As an example: You can buy D_v2 and DSv2 reservations. In the billing file and the cost analysis dashboard you see only D*v2/DS_v2 items. Even the MeterID and the Partnumber are equal for Dv2 and DS*v2 (as is the unit cost). So, why distinquish between products and reservations and group everything together in the reporting and dashboarding. Appreciate a straight approach here, to be able to manage reservation volumes.

  6. Managing permissions for Azure Reserved VM Instances using Powershell needs to be developed

Currently in order to grant permissions(ex : Reader Role) on existing Azure Reserved VM Instances, one has to navigate to the IAM manually and select each Reservation(id) and grant the required permissions as stated in the link(https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/billing/billing-manage-reserved-vm-instance)

This process will be hectic when tenant has Reservation Id's in 100's or even below 100. This needs to be managed more easily via powershell.

  7. RI Recomendations

As of now, Recommendations are not available based on the instance size flexibility, can we have this feature enabled?

  8. Provide hourly consumption data on my Reserved Instances

At the moment the Azure billing API provides a daily aggregation for RI usage. This is great, I have enough data to calculate the cost if I wanted to.

What it doesn’t tell me is when the virtual machine was run (time of day).

    Why is that important?
I want to know how many virtual machines run at the same time (max count per hour).

    Why?
I want to purchase reserved instances based on the maximum concurrently run in an hour, as opposed to how many ran throughout the day. This information will help me make a more informed decision…

  9. Add more reservation options to help decrease the cost of long term services.

Add more reservation options to help decrease the cost of long term services.

Its impressive the price difference between a Windows and Linux VM with 3 year commitment.

Services like storage (specially backup) are excellent candidates for reservations.

Please consider to add Reservations for:
Windows OS Licences (On Azure VMs)
    Storage (Backups, storage accounts, etc).
    Bandwith.
    App Service Plans

  11. Conditional Access control for Azure AD PowerShell, which calls Microsoft Graph.

Has consideration been given to the possibility of enabling conditional access control for Azure AD PowerShell, which calls Microsoft Graph? This would enable organizations to be able to control who can use AzureAD powershell to query their Azure AD instance.

    Reference: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/role-based-access-control/conditional-access-azure-management

  12. Support a function to check in which Availability Zone a resource has been deployed.

In some cases, users might want to know which availability zone their Azure resources have deployed.

For instance, zonal services can be used to "lock" resources within an Availability Zone in order to accelerate communications as much as possible, but once deployed, a user has no way to check which zone he/she deployed, thus he/she needs to keep the information at the time of deployment.

A function to see Availability Zone via PowerShell, REST API, or Azure Portal may help users very well.

  15. RBAC Role for Reserved Instance creation WITHOUT Owner role on the Subscription

RBAC role created so a group can be added for the single purpose of Reserved Instance creation, without keys to the kingdom (Owner rights). Capacity and Procurement would not need such keys as they would only be creating RI’s, following Least Privilege Access.

  16. Collect modifications to Azure reservations (options/scope updates) in activity logs and display them in portal, as well as API capability

Collect modifications to Azure reservations (options updates, scope change, cancelling/refund, ...) in activity logs and display them in portal, as well as API capability to retrieve such changes. This can help audit reservations, and establish better governance.

1 - All Charges (usage and purchases) Replace {metric} with ActualCost

2- Usage that got reservation discount Replace {metric} with ActualCost

    Replace {filter} with: properties/reservationId%20ne%20

3- Usage that didn't get reservation discount Replace {metric} with ActualCost

    Replace {filter} with: properties/reservationId%20eq%20
Amortized charges (usage and purchases) Replace {metric} with AmortizedCost

4- Unused reservation report Replace {metric} with AmortizedCost

  18. Buy Azure Reservation with subscription "owner" privilege assigned with AAD group and Management Group

Right now Azure reservation can be bought using the EA Account admin or user assigned as "Owner" directly in access control(IAM). But user assigned as "Owner" through AAD or through Management Groups scope are not able to buy the reservations.

  20. Please make Reserved Instances available for Taiwan Pay-as-you-go Customer

Currently, the reserved instance for Pay as you go subscription is not available for Brazil, India, China, Taiwan, Russia, Korea, Argentina, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Liechtenstein, Malaysia, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and Turkey.

However, customers from above regions are expecting to have RI benefit.

Please make Reserved Instances available for Taiwan/Hong Kong/China Pay-as-you-go Customers.

    Thank you!
