Azure Data Share

Azure Data Share empowers your organization to share data with multiple organizations with just a few clicks, code free and no infrastructure to administer. With Azure data share, data providers can easily set up a new data share containing data sets from a variety of Azure data sources. Data providers can invite multiple customers and partners to the data share and ensure that they are always in control of their data. Azure data share provides a simple and secure way to manage and monitor who has accessed the data share, how frequently they are receiving updates as well as the ability to revoke access at any time.

More details about Azure Data Share are available here: Azure Data Share documentation

  1. Support to share to/from non-Azure Data Sources

Support to share to/from non-Azure platform services like OnPrem-SQL server, AWS S3 bucket, etc. This will help us tremendously in situations where we are collaborating with firms that don't have an Azure tenant yet.

  2. Enable Row Level Security

The data provider should be able to configure Row Level Security (RLS) to data recipients, so the provider does not have to configure different SQL tables/views for each recipient of the data.

  3. Support transfer even where Storage Network Security is enabled

In my testing the Data Share service seems to fail when trying to trigger a snapshot of a Dataset when the Storage Account at either end of the connection has Storage Network Security configured (even if 'Allow trusted Microsoft service' is enabled: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-gb/azure/storage/common/storage-network-security#trusted-microsoft-services)

This is true of both the source (sending) and sink/target (receiving) end of a Data Share.

Perhaps Storage Accounts need a special additional exception to allow (specific?) Data Share accounts to connect to them directly?

  4. Add option to change whether the data provider or data subscriber is charged for execution

Currently, data provider is billed for Dataset Snapshot and Snapshot Execution.

An option to defer the cost to the data consumer could be a useful model when exposing data.

  5. Enable Azure Data Share in Government cloud

Please offer Azure Data Share feature in US Government cloud. We share data and collaborate with many departments within our organization and external government agencies to provide services to residents. This would be an awesome feature can eliminate one of the biggest obstacles to data sharing - Cost of making data sets originating from from legacy mainfame/AS400 data stores available to cloud

  6. Customize email template

I would like a bit more customization features for the template email. Such as custom tenant name, different FROM address, make a mailto from the person sending the email.

  7. Expand snapshot schedule

Would like to see more options for scheduling a refresh. Much like when creating a Schedule for a SQL server Agent job.

Only refresh on certain days each week,
be able to specify a Start and End date

and allow a schedule to be changed after it has been created.

  8. Add Snapshot trigger refresh by event

The current trigger works, but it would be more useful if we could trigger the event from logic apps

  9. Option for Git-backed dataset definitions

Similar to ADF, it would be nice to define datasets through a definition file that's version/history tracked instead of a UI.
