Azure App Configuration

Azure App Configuration provides a service to centrally manage application settings. Store all your application configurations and secure their accesses in one place. Consume configuration data easily in multiple application run-time environments or a CI/CD pipeline. Use the service from any programming language.

More details about this service are available in the Azure App Configuration documentation.

  1. Link configuration with KeyVault secret item

Currently connection string or access credential are managed by KeyVault, while most of them are consumed by application as configuration. It will be great to link configuration with KeyVault secret. For instance, one configuration item can link to a KeyVault secret item which is actually a SQL connection string.

  2. Allow Environment or Label specific permission options

I am planning to store Development, Test, and Production configuration in a single App Configuration instance using Labels. Clients will access the configuration using Managed Identity and I want to restrict access to "Production" Label.

  4. Allow push-based configuration changed notification

It would be great if Azure App Configuration allows push-based configuration changed notification using Event Grid or simply via a webhook. Services hosted outside Azure can take great advantage from this feature.

  6. Extract information from Azure Enterprise Applications

Is there any other way to read and extract information from Azure Enterprise Applications ?
We want to capture all the applications and its settings (as a backup) and publish those internally for different stakeholders.
We want to know about the certificate expiration's etc..

So it is important for us to read the info from Azure Applications and compile it for other teams.

  7. Link with Variable Groups in Azure DevOps

There's already an Azude Devop Task, but it would be nice to link variable groups in Azure DevOps with Azure App Configuration

  9. Comparing more than 2 labels or dimensions in Azure portal and allow exporting it as an excel or csv

I would like to compare more than 2 labels in the Azure portal and export the compare view as an excel sheet where I can see all different variations of a key-value pair. This feature could also be used to compare two or more App Configuration instances.

  10. App Configuration Nuget package is not compatible with AzureAppServiceAuthentication 1.2.0

The current nuget package uses methods without cancellation tokens that were deprecated in AzureAppServiceAuthentication 1.2.0. So you have to use 1.0.3 in order to leverage managed identity auth to app configuration. But 1.0.3 doesn't support user assigned identities.

  11. Allow configuration for multiple deployments to be combined together

Current implementation seem to assume one deployment -> one configuration file/source scenario (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/azure-app-configuration/enable-dynamic-configuration-aspnet-core)

For an IoT project I am working on, there will be so many IoT instances running. If I deploy one config per IoT instance, it becomes hard to keep track of config files for each deployments and the various versions of it.

instead if the config value part on the key-value pair can be an expression which executes and provides value based on certain parameters such as say, region in which the IoT device exists then, one config file for all deployments work perfectly file.

  12. CreateUidefication.json file for managed application should allow to define variables

CreateUidefication.json file for managed application should have a property to define variables so that a common value can be defined once and used throughout.

  13. Change functionality of Enterprise Applications to make them visible in the app portal if user assignment is not required

Picture this. You create an Enterprise app and you want it to be available to ALL of your users and be VISIBLE when they go to myapps.microsoft.com with minimum management efforts from you. So you set "User Assignment Required" to "No", "Visible to Users" to "Yes" and "Enable for users to sign-in" to "Yes". You expect the app to appear for your users in the app portal, but NOPE, it does not. According to Microsoft's logic, you need to actually turn "User Assignment Required" to "Yes" and then go through the trouble of assigning users to the app. Why? That's…
