  1. Thread priority and scheduling policy on MT3620

i'm currently working on the MT3620 Development Kit. My program as realtime requirements. I have ~5 threads and i tried changing the scheduling policy to FIFO and tried to change the thread priorities. None of it worked.

Since there's no information about that topic in the Azure Sphere documentation, i wonder if:

in the current state of the MT3620 is it even possible for me to do that?

  3. GPIO APIs incomplete

The GPIO apis are incomplete. While the MT3620 may not have internal pull ups/pull downs, other microcontrollers moving forward will. You'll need to have a way of configuring the pull state of individual GPIOs going forward.

  4. Support for wildcard for subdomains in AllowedConnections

Please add support for wildcard for subdomains when specifying AllowedConnections in the application manifest, i.e. please allow:

    *.domain.com

    Thanks,

  6. Detect completion of UART write

Creating this Feedback as per MSDN thread:
    https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/4711b6cc-b714-4d36-9918-7eaaf00e2146/detect-completion-of-uart-write?forum=azuresphere

In our project we use Azure sphere talk to other device using RS485.

We use a chip to convert TTL to RS485 signal. For the RS485 to work, there is a TX-enable GPIO, it need to be pull high when sending data and pull low when receiving data. From code, it need to know exactly when transmission is completed, so it can switch to receiving mode immediately and avoid data lost on RX.

With current Azure sphere SDK, UART can only support non-blocking mode, write() will return immediately before data actually been…

  8. Replace C with C++, Rust.

Using C on a device that is being sold as an example of security kind of hinders the whole purpose.

It is as if Microsoft internal units don't talk to each other.

While Microsoft Security is advising against the use of C, pushing for C#, C++ with Core Guidelines and Rust, Azure Sphere tries to sell a security story based on C.

If Azure Sphere is actually serious about security, secure alternatives to C must be supported on the SDK.

Otherwise it is just yet another device selling hardware mitigations against exploits in C code.

  11. Reference Software for MT3620 Max Thermal Testing

Could you provide reference software that runs all the MT3620 cores at max consumption to push the chip to its thermal limits?

All OEMs will face the challenge of thermal testing for their unique device mechanical design. An initial (i.e. limited functionality) software payload may not be representative of its eventual power dissipation once more power-hungry features are deployed in the field.

Indeed, this is unique to a solution like Azure Sphere that is designed specifically to enable software updates over many years. The power hunger of functionality on day 1 may not be representative of what the chip ends…

  12. Manage AS3 Tenant in Azure Portal

It would be nice to be able to see and possibly manage the Azure Sphere Security Service Tenant within the Azure Portal. Be able to see device lists, products, etc. Also download certificates and things from within the Azure Portal. Sure, the azsphere CLI is nice, but Azure Portal UI support would be nice too.

  13. Support Azure IoT Edge modules

I know as an MCU the idea is Azure Sphere is a lower powered device. However, it'd also be great if we could build Azure Sphere devices using Azure IoT Edge with modules for building out an Azure Sphere based Gateway device. This would allow the full security of Azure Sphere to be utilized with an Azure IoT Edge device, and get the best of both of these technologies in a single device.

I know there's a few things to do to support this; like adding C# support, a faster CPU, more memory, among others. It would be amazing if…

  15. Share Data Between Applications on A7

It is suggested that two high-level applications (A7) can run simultaneously, which means each application can communicate with the other.

  16. Allow independent control of the chip select line in the SPI bus

Allow independent control of the chip select line on a SPI bus. Some devices such as SD cards have special behavior and need the CS line to be high or low independently of whether some data is being exchanged. As of now it is possible to use an additional pin leaving the "standard" CS disconnected but in my opinion it is quite a waste.

  19. Provide more verbose OTA status logs

I faced network related issue which was blocking OTA update and app deployment to my device, however device did not provide any sort of information or log indicating, that there is communication issue which doesn't allow OTA process to happen. When asking for ota status, device should inform administrator about issue which prevents OTA process to go thru.
