Allow selecting disk type when creating AKS cluster
There is no way to select disk type (Standard or Premium) when creating an AKS cluster via Portal or Azure CLI, by default Node OS disk type is derived from the selected VM size.
To be more specific, I want a node StandardB2s with Standard disk. If I create a plain VM, I can select such configuration. If I create an AKS cluster with StandardB2s node, I can stop the node and change the disk type to Standard, but I cannot select Standard_B2s + Standard disk while creating AKS cluster.
I'd love to build a lab in AKS, but the premium disk costs make it cost-prohibitive. If I could define my AKS VMSSs with HDD and B-series VMs, I'd build my lab here on Azure instead of AWS.
I also need this.

I have found the necessity of this feature as well.
I usually go to a MS website "Pricing calculator" to check the Monthly estimate when customers request us to introduce Azure Service.
The website shows us the result of Calculation of AKS resource as if OS storage type is chooseable.
I also strongly request System Node Pool to be changeable.

As for vmss, itself does not support updating os disk storage account type. So, everyone needs this feature moreover.

same here, Would like to use B2s or B2ms nodes + Standard disks

Same here - would like to use B2ms for tests and demos, but the Premium SSD tier that is provisioned isn't suitable. I'd be happy with Standard HDD (or failing that, Standard SSD)
Second this. Would like to use B2s nodes + Standard disks for demos/POCs. Because there's apparently no way to override the Premium SSD defaults, costs for my demo clusters are unnecessarily high.
