Azure Monitor

Azure Monitor Action Groups enable you to configure how to receive notifications when an Azure Monitor Alert is triggered.

  1. Add an option for a demo of service health alert

Currently, there is no demo option for service health alerts, and an user can receive alerts only when an actual incident occurs. However, some customers would like to check if the alert works properly before configuring it in a production environment. Therefore, it would be great if the user could fire a service helth alert as a test.

Thanks for your feedback and its now open for the user community to upvote & comment on. This allows us to effectively prioritize your request against our existing feature backlog and also gives us insight into the potential impact of implementing the suggested feature.

  2. Can we please have the database size shown on azure dashboard?

Can the database sizes be displayed on the DTU percentage graphs on Azure dashboards, as it will be very helpful to our monitoring? like the attached picture. Thanks.

  3. Make it possible to modify automatically generated VM Insights alerts.

The new VM Insights experience is great, and fills a void in VM monitoring. Now we can finally get an overview of full disk etc.

We would like to modify or add the alertrule for these alerts to get notified on Teams/Webhook/mail etc.

  4. Azure monitor - Include tags in webhook payload

It would be useful to have resource tags included in the webhook payload when generating an alert. It will add additional context.

    Thanks

  5. RBAC role within shared Log Analytics workspace to allow users to only query their own data

When multiple subscriptions are feeding security and performance logs into a single, shared workspace it is not currently possible for users to create their own alerts based on just the data generated from their own resources. There is a level of granularity missing. The current options are to either allow users to query ALL contents of the workspace (a clear violation of the principle of least privilege), or to allow users to query NONE of the contents.

  6. Azure Quotas API/cmdlet

Monitor the limit and current use of Azure services using API or cmdlet (currently only available for compute, storage and networking resources using Get-AzVMUsage, Get-AZStorageUsage and Get-AzNetworkUsage) in order to generate alerts before reaching the limit of use / quota

  8. Allow for trigger of Alert Action Group

Allow an action group to be manually triggered by some other means (Powershell, Rest API...). This would allow for an alert to trigger an automation account and/or a logic app for more advanced processing of the alert and then trigger another action group to actually process the notification. Without this option, the automation account and/or logic app would then need to handle the notification which can be rather difficult at scale.

This would also allow for an action group to be tested to confirm that it is working without having to force the criteria for which the alert was made.

  9. The unit on metric explorer should be unified among all services

Currently, it looks like the unit on metric explorer is different between each resource provider. Some resource use MB, others use MiB for showing the metric. However, this isn't user-friendly. It would be great if you could unify the unit for all services.

  10. Text Alerts in Azure Monitor Not Detailed

Text Alerts in Azure Monitor are not detailed enough as only show the description of the alert and not the service or server effected by the issue.

More detail on the Text Alerts to be added or potential options for customising Text Alerts to add and include information.

  11. Microsoft-Windows Diagnostic-Performance

We want to monitor the health of our workstations using Azure Monitor. One of the most important metric to start with is the boot time that resides in the event log. Currently Azure Monitor does not collect the event log named "Microsoft-Windows Diagnostic-Performance".

Can you please add this event log in Azure Monitor?

  12. Allow editing of JSON payload for webhooks on Azure Monitor-based alerts

If an Alert rule is based on an Application Insights query and one of the action groups is a Webhook, then I am able to customize the JSON payload sent to the Webhook.

I would like the same feature for Azure monitor-based alerts, please.

  13. Add possibity to disable mail notification when a new action group is created

When you add email recipient to action group this recipient will obtain mail notification "You're now in the ... action group".

There is no possibility to disable it. It is annoying when environment is scripted and deployed multiple times.

Please add possibility to supress this notification.

  14. Set the axis tick marks in Azure Monitor

Currently, the axis tick marks in Azure Monitor are calculated automatically based on the data.

There are situations where I would like to see a more detailed the axis tick.
So I'd like to see a feature developed to set the axis scale in Azure Monitor!

  15. Sort the list of templates in an action group in combination with the ITSM Connector

When you add an ITSM Connector action to an action group you have to select a template for an incident workitem. This list of templates is not sorted and there is also not an option to filter. With sometimes hundreds of templates this is an absolute nightmare. Start by sorting the list of templates. Adding an option to filter as well would be a great addition.

  16. Full transparency when VMs are throttled

Please allow us to learn when Azure decides to throttle disk/CPU resources. You already have the data. I'm just asking that you share it with the customer so we can build alerts based on that data. Your suggested solution of asking each user to run performance-monitoring services within the client to monitor disk throughput/CPU usage is straight from the Department of Redundancy Department.

  17. Azure Monitor dashboards created from Analytics queries are not auto-refreshed

Created visualizations using Application Insights/Log Analytics (KQL), and has pinned them to the dashboard in Azure portal. The dashboard however does not provide any mechanism to set auto-refresh interval and hence customer has to manually click the refresh icons each time on each visualization.

  18. Direct integration with Slack apps

The suggested integration with Slack is requires an 'API connection' in Azure.

Slack's recommended way of integrating is via an application which exposes a web hook URL.

    https://api.slack.com/start/overview

Azure DevOps already supports integration directly with such an app (we already have this working). The suggested use of a Logic App requires an additional resource definition in Azure. I'd much prefer to manage my apps in Slack and then just add a web hook as a secret to a key vault.

Rather than having to define a logic app to define the mapping between Azure common schema and Slacks schema there…

  19. Rework the standard support e-mail

The standard e-mail is not very good.

    1. I have 6 different subscriptions to monitor. There is no way of knowing which subscription has triggered the alert, unless i memerize the GUID for the subscription.

    2. Rule ID: Same thing. Use the name of the sub instead.

    3. The link in the e-mail points to "the portal". Just the default page. Is there no way to point the user to at least some other page, nearer the actual error?

  20. On app service performance counters for TCP connections, don't filter by TCP state, instead show a line per type

Under "Diagnose and solve problems" > "Metrics per instance (Apps)" > "Perf Counters" > "TCPv4\ TCPv4 Connections Established"

    It describes the graph as...
Connections Established is the number of TCP connections for which the current state is either ESTABLISHED or CLOSE-WAIT.

Can you instead show a line per state so we can understand if there are connection issues. And don't filter on just the above 2, show all.

Also, the description has "CLOSE-WAIT" as what it is showing, but the state in TCP is actually "CLOSEWAIT", is there a possible bug with the filter and it is actually not
