Advisor Recommendations performance warning - results in killed pids on small VMs
I have enabled Advisor Recommendations on Ubuntu 18.04 B1s size VM which resulted in frequent outages, CPU spiking to 100% for a period of 45 minutes and increased IO. Support have confirmed logs show killed s
pids due to memory pressure. Granted it's a tiny VM but portal should either not allow to install Advisor on such small VMs or at least give a noticeable warning in the Portal. Moreover, the advisor is not easy to remove via Portal.
Sorry that you’re experiencing these issues. Azure Advisor does not install anything on VMs in order to provide recommendations. Can you provide additional details that will help us route this issue correctly? Thanks!
Hi Marcin, we have moved this to Azure Monitor because they might be better able to help you. There might be some naming confusion here between Azure Advisor (https://aka.ms/azureadvisor) and an Advisor feature within a different service.

Hi, I ran "top" and saw python using lots of memory and cpu. I then ran "ps -Ao pid,cmd | grep python" to see the script being run. Then compared my findings with a vanilla Azure build Ubuntu 18.04 and found the affected machine had omsagent.py running. I disabled it by "mv omsagent.py omsagent.py.bak". I may have also changed crontab for it but cannot remember it there was one. I realise omsagent is a different product but it must have been installed when I enabled the advisor?
