SSMS Crash when dragging table from Object explorer into new query window
Have just installed this version v18.1 and everytime I drag a table from Object explorer into new query window SSMS crashes, I have to kill it.
I have no add-ins installed, have rebooted since installing.
O/s Win 10 15063.1387
Issue has been identified and a fix is being made. It will be rolled out with the next update of SSMS 18.

I'm getting the same error as James. I think it's some drawing problem? Maybe SQL isn't redrawing the window and may be missing a dll or something?
It happens when I move windows as well and try to do the split view.
SSMS crashes constantly. Just start it up, open 2 command windows, and drag one of them (i.e. to dock side by side). It crashes immediately and consistently. Running version 14.0.17289.0 and it says SSMS is up to date. (Help/About lists it as v17.9.1, so not sure why the versions listed by update and help are different).
This solution worked for me. Upgrading to 18.2. Thanks.

Using v18.2 today and the issue seems to be resolved. Dragging objects from object explorer works like it used to and no crashing! Thanks
FYI, upon upgrade from v18.1 to 18.2 today, this is no longer crashing for me, but copying of the object name into the .sql text editor window (the desired -- and original /old -- behavior) does not happen.
Same issue here. I'm using Win 7 Pro

Same issue as reported
ESC does not work for me, is a fix imminent?
What's the status?

I found that if you hit escape while the error is up, you can continue without having to restart SSMS
We've now been waiting a MONTH for this to be fixed. Really?
This issue essentially renders this version of SSMS worthless. Our staff had to de-install and re-install older version.
Fix in a few weeks? That is unacceptable. This should have been caught during testing before the release. what is your suggestion to resolve in the mean time?

How can you even release a software and miss something like that during testing ??

Same problem - Significant impact on productivity as it is habit to drag & drop and this then takes time for me to kill the SSMS session restart and get back to the work I was doing. When is next release due please?
encountered the same issue. Is fix rolled out already ?
We are planning the next update in the next few weeks. thanks for your patience.

This is a major productivity drain and so would really appreciate an ETA on a fix for this.
Thank you Sunil / NDM - didn't know hitting escape would save me from having to quit
