I have V18.9.2 installed and the remember password function still doesn't work.
Jeffrey Perez commented
this is what people remember, very basic functionality yet buggy!!!!
It's crazy that this isn't fixed yet!

This still occurs in SSMS 18.9.1: The passwords are remembered, but the last used user is not remembered and you have to manually reselect it from the Login drop-down every time (in case that you logged in with more than one user in the past). The last user used for login should have been remembered too between restarts, or it should have been moved automatically (after a successful login) to the top in the the Login drop-down list.
Now the workaround is to delete (hover with the mouse or select with up-down arrow keys the user you want to delete and then hit the DEL key) all the top users from the Login drop-down until your default user is the first one.

Guys at MS, c'mon... fix it already. I've been working with SSMS for like more than 15 years already and the issue still persists. How hard is it to save a short string? Look at dbForge product by DevArt - never losses connections and never forgets passwords. For how long you're going to push your customers to your competitors, huh?
Please, fix this thing already!
How come is so hard to just remenber a password when, in fact, SSMS is already remembering them in the Resgistered Servers window. But still, every time i want to change a script from one server to another i randombly get a missing password. Also, in the connection window we should have the option to choose the registered servers.
I am using SSMS 18.9.1
By the way, I have been deleting the credentials using the windows credential manager to get SSMS to create new ones, but still it ramdonbly losses them

From 18.6 and I now have Installed 18.9.1 this feature is not working!!
I have to go back to 18.5 for password remembering to work.
Please fix it.
Same problem here!
This had worked randomly, in the latest Version 18.9.1 it is never working. Please fix it. It's frustrating when you have to connect many times to the server.

This is really annoying!

This has never worked for years
In SSMS 18.9.1 it NEVER remembers it so far. So frustrating.
When I have bugs in my software I can always say I am doing better than Microsoft...

This has been a bug since the first version in 2005, 16 years later and they still haven't fixed it. It remembers the password for a random number of logins, then blanks it out along with the checkbox.

After looking at this thread: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/102500/sql-server-management-studio-18-remember-password.html
I followed the steps outlined here: https://docs.microsoft.com/answers/answers/125619/view.html
This worked for me, I'm quite sure that all the accounts that "lost" the passwords even when I had "remember" checked was imported from the old SSMS v17.x version I had.
Maybe this is why the remember-checkbox does not work?

Same issue for me, just upgraded from SSSM 17.x to 18.8 and passwords are not remembered any more,
This version of ssms NEVER remembers the password.
This happens all the time to me too.

Same issue. Some passwords are saved, sometimes. Some passwords that had been saved disappear. Very annoying.
I have had this issue for numerous versions - tested on v18.8 and still happening. Server 2012 R2.

I connect to several Azure servers through SMS and some it remembers the password and some it does not. Very irritating as I have to look up the password for each server it does not remember.
