SSMS Tools > Check for Updates doesn't fine new version
I'm using SSMS v18.1, and I have the option to automatically check for updates. Even still, if I manually select Tools > Check for Updates, it dutifully tells me that I am on the latest version.
But a simple web search reveals that v18.2 was released about three weeks ago.
Same with the new Version 18.5.
At first I assumed that it's because I have a English SSMS and German OS, that SSMS checks for Updates for the German Version, but reading this, this may not be the case.
Yet another version it's not detecting.
I keep randomly checking and get disappointed every time I see a new version and SSMS didn't inform me there was an update. Please get this feature fixed or remove it so we can stop being disappointed in how broken it is. Here's a simple screen shot. Running 15.0.18178.0, checkmark for automatically check for updates for SQL Server Management Studio is turned on. Checkmark says it's the latest version. Going to Help->Resource Center->Download SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) shows 15.0.18183.0 is the latest version and it was released yesterday. When I updated to 18178, it had indicated it was released the week before.
The version showing is 15.. in the SSMS update window.. 17 never detected 18 - which I thought was due to just a breaking change possibility - but when the dot releases of the 18 are not seeing the updates - the dialog is just plain broken..
I saw the 18.3 was available and tested it on a machine - as Damir Matesic stated - did not find the update from 18.2
