Where is dreplay.exe?
The distributed replay Administration Tool used to be part of the Management Tools. Since SSMS has forked it is gone. I checked SSMS 17.9 and SSMS 18.2 - it's not there. Where is it? I want it back. How should I now controll my distributed reply? The Installation guide for distributed replay for SQL 2017 says one should install Managment Tools Basic which basically means that I can do All my Installation from the SQL 2017 enterprise Media but for the dreplay.exe I have to go back to SQL 2014.
What should SQL Server 2019 users be doing to get distributed replay to work? The documentation and install options for distributed replay on 2019 is still there. For SQL 2019, DReplayClient.exe and DReplayController.exe get installed but not DReplay.exe Installing patch SQLServer2019-KB4552255-x64.exe does not help.
It appears in July 2020 the last working version of distriubuted replay was 17.x
If this is true, Microsoft should remove distributed replay from both documentation and install.

@Varghese Mathew: but that cannot be the solution - installing an old Version of ssms to get Access to an executable that is required to use a feature that is stíll part of the Installation. What sense does it make to have DReplayClient and DReplayController in the Installation when the Dreplay.exe is not available anymore? DReplay cannot be used without DReplay.exe. If it was discontinued - OK. But currently the feature is presented in the very most Shining light there is (in the main window of the Setup) and the feature cannot be used sind a critical part is missing. I am confused to say the least (no offense tough and thx for pointing to a Workaround)

The following fix assumes that the DReplay administration tool is available in SSMS 17.X https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4045678/fix-unexpected-error-when-you-use-the-dreplay-feature-to-replay-a

Since Microsoft deprecated the "Management Tools - Basic" feature selection item when they forked SSMS off from the main product, but didn't update any of their DR installation documentation, and chose to silently deprecate the DReplay.exe tool - but only that tool, not Distributed Replay itself - in SSMS 18, it seems like the least they could do to support an official SQL Server feature. Ostress / ORCA are even less well documented / supported than DR so it's not clear what we're supposed to be relying on, or what the roadmap is. If I recall, DReplay.exe isn't even available on the lonely little "download other SQL Server command line tools" with relics like sql90.
