SSMS Crash when dragging table from Object explorer into new query window
Have just installed this version v18.1 and everytime I drag a table from Object explorer into new query window SSMS crashes, I have to kill it.
I have no add-ins installed, have rebooted since installing.

This has been fixes. Please try the latest version of SSMS – 18.5 and let us know if you are still seeing this issue.
Same issue. Extremely annoying to be used to dragging/dropping long/complex table names into query window, just for SSMS to continually crash now... When will this be fixed?
I am also getting the same error while dragging. To resolve it, we need to kill the ssms using task manager and reload the ssms.
I wonder how such a basic bug has not been identified during the testing or you just complete the development and publish to the internet and are we the real testers?

18.0 has a launch issue... That was fixed with 18.1. 18.1 has this bug. Very annoying! Stop updating SSMS so frequently! Slow down and do more testing. We don't need these nonstop upgrades. I'm directing users back to 17.9.1. I'm sure there's a bug there too.

Any chance of feedback on timescales or a hotfix? Using this feature is a habit that is hard to break during development, and restarting is a becoming a real drag.

This is a serious bug that has cost me several long-running queries to cancel in other tabs. Any chance of a "v18.1.1" hotfix? Most people, myself included, drag/drop objects out of habit, so waiting 2 months for v18.2 is a terrible solution vs. reinstalling v18.0.
v18.1 should be pulled in favor of v18.0.
Having the same issue. Had to uninstall and reinstall 18.0 to continue
I am experiencing the same issue, just installed v18.1 and SSMS crashes anytime I drag a table from Object Explorer into a query window. I have to "End Task" for SSMS via Task Manager in order to kill it and restart SSMS.

I am having the same issue. You can hit esc a couple of time to exit the error and keep you query.

Same for me - can't believe that this would not have been picked up during testing! Do you not test, or do your testers never do any real development?
A fix is needed really badly, as it is very annoying

Same issue, INSTEAD of killing SSMS when the error window pops up just PRESS ENTER and it should un-freeze.
Same issue: fatal SSMS crash after dragging table name
