dm_db_missing_index_group_stats, consider adding row count
Enhancement to dmdbmissingindexgroup_stats consider adding row count.
The Missing Index Group Stats are quite useful in
determining what indexes maybe cost beneficial to
implement. I'd like to suggest an enhancement that
would aid in narrowing down when a cover index
outweighs the costs of maintain the index and I
believe this could be done by noting the average
row count from the queries the optimizer believes
the index would help.
Normally when reviewing suggested indexes I
methodically take the suggestion and delve into
the query plans related to the table in question.
I do this looking for the relationship and
additional details as a whole.
Over the years of doing this I am finding that
I can narrow my selection by weighing the
estimated row count and considering the RID/Key
Lookup costs if I employed a fractional index of
that which was suggested hence my suggestion.
Please let me know if you need any additional
information regarding this enhancement.
