SSDT 17.x - Unable to preview SSIS OLE DB Data Source when using Oracle Connector
I have an SSIS packages that queries an Oracle data source. When trying to preview the query in the data source configuration window, it errors out.
Visual Studio 2015, Update 3, Version 14.0.25431.01
SSDT 17.4 (Build 14.0.61712.050)
Oracle Client 12.1.0
OLE DB Connector: Oracle Provider for OLE DB
There was an error displaying the preview. (Microsoft Visual Studio)
The system cannot find message text for message number 0x80040e51 in the message file for OraOLEDB. (OraOLEDB)

I have the same issue and here are my notes:
Same problem with both Oracle providers as cited above.
Set these properties. We should be able to resolve this issue
• “ValidateExternalMetadata” is used with controls that relies on a database object not yet created. For example, a table / view that is created ion the source query.
• “AlwaysuseDefaultCodePage “ is a value that indicates whether to use the value of the DefaultCodePage property for each column, or to try to derive the codepage from each column's locale. The default value of this property is False.
I have a same problem, with VS2017, SqlServer 2012 on SSIS and oracle instant client 12.1.0
Seeing the same issue. tried the MS Oracle provider and that comes up with a slightly different error but still an error when trying to preview. Spent the last 3 hours looking online for a solution.
Any solutions yet, I have the same issue
