SQL Server 2008 Data Collection ExecMasterPackage timeout
Hello, I am seeing Data Collection Collector Set Collection scheduled jobs failing with errors:
ExecMasterPackage has timed out 3600 seconds after being signaled to stop.
Waiting on a kernel object(s) failed. Inner error --------------> The handle is invalid.
Please let me know what I can do to resolve these errors.

Thank you for reporting this behavior, we will investigate for consideration in a future release.
Thank you for looking into this. Can you offer a workaround? Should I drop data collection and re-add it?<=-=Aug 12 2010 9:03AM=-=>
This issue appears to be described in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971640/ and was fixed in Cumulative Update 3 of SQL Server 2008 SP1. You can either use the information in the article to obtain the most current cumulative update (I believe it is CU9) or you can wait for the next service pack which should be available within the next several months as it is currently in it’s Community Technology Preview. Details about the CTP of the service pack are available at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=979450.
Were you able to determine if your issue was resolved by the next service pack of SQL Server? As I mentioned you can get a preview of the next service pack following the instructions at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=979450.
After installing SP1, the collection jobs run successfully.
Thank you.<=-=Sep 21 2010 4:58PM=-=>
I’m glad to hear that SP1 resolved this issue for you. I’m close this item based on your feedback.
I am still seeing this error:
“Executed as user: Domain\User. The thread “ExecMasterPackage” has timed out 3600 seconds after being signaled to stop. Process Exit Code 259. The step failed"

A per KB971640, it should be resolved for SQL Versions starting at-least from 2008 R2.
Can someone let me know the root cause and/or work around for this.
I’m see this same problem with only one of our instances of the Management Data Warehouse. We have a total of 3. We’re only seeing the problem on one of them. They’re all configured the same and have the same Service Pack.
The thread “ExecMasterPackage” has timed out 3600 seconds after being signaled to stop. Process Exit Code 259. The step failed
We’re running SQL Server 2012 11.0.6579, which is
Service Pack 3 for SQL Server 2012 (KB3072779) (64-bit) and
Hotfix 6579 for SQL Server 2012 (KB3205051)(64-bit)
How can I resolve this?
