cannot change GridResults background color
I still cannot change the background color on the grid results pane in SSMS. Changing the foreground color works, and I can change the background color on the text editor without issues, but it does not work for grid results. This has been broken since SQL 2005. WTFFFFFFF
Thank you for this feedback. I’ll add this to our backlog but please understand this is not high priority at the moment. IF we have enough votes we may reconsider.
I take it back, while VS does have the options in Fonts and Colors, none of the settings actually changes anything about the results grid.
You can change all the colors when using Visual Studio 2019. But it only works in VS, it has no effect in SSMS.
The old color CRT monitors we used in the 1990's showed VIBRANT colors - LCD color monitors have always been more washed out compared to CRT monitors. Pale colors have always been harder to see on LCD than on CRT. It would be REALLY NICE to be able to more easily see the NULL yellow cells. Thanks. (why do these annoyances not shake out in testing?)
Since I can't actually see the difference between NULL and 'NULL' on most monitors, I would appreciate a real fix within SSMS options, Fonts and Colors!
This is rather an important difference to be able to see. In the old days, the Windows Tip setting changed it, but on Windows 10 that's not in the menus anymore.
Apparently it can be affected (SSMS 18.4 on Windows 10 Version 1903) by
which sets RGB values for the background for NULLs and some other windows options.
0 0 255 paints them in bright red, for example.
Note that InfoText does NOT affect the color of the text.
A reboot is required.
Please re-instate this feature:
Previously (i.e. before Windows 10, possibly Windows 7)
You can change the background color of "NULLS" within the grid section of SSMS by altering the color of 'Windows Tips' in the Personalization section under Control Panel for Windows.
When I try to find that under Windows 10 I can get to Personalise but under Background I don’t see a Windows Tips.
