Setup fails if msxml 6 sp2 installed before setup
I installed SQL SERVER 2005 SP3 first then I tried to install SQL SERVER 2008 Express advanced.
The setup failed at msxml6.msi and the log says that there is already a newer version installed.
AND, I had variaous problems with the setup - I saw DR. Watson several times.
BTW, the setup/uninstallation experience has always been BAD, SINCE SQL SERVER 2005. I always had problems installing and uninstalling.

This is a known issue so I’ve resolved your bug Duplicate. This bug is fixed in Katmai PCU – which will be released in a few months.
Until then to avoid this problem you can
1. uninstall MSXML (latest version) install us and then reinstall MSXML
2. install the same loc SQL as your OS Loc – this only happens for systems where the SQL loc and the OS loc are not the same
After we release the PCU you will be able to slipstream in the fix when install RTM.

This bug should be fixed sooner then in “a couple of months”. The documented workaround is an unacceptable solution for those of us who embed SQL 2005 Express Edition into custom software distributions.<=-=Mar 12 2009 2:21AM=-=>
This is also my oppinion. We also use the SQL Database for our solution and now we still have to use the sql 2005 database, because the support appearance would be too high.
