SQL Server

Microsoft SQL Server powers your entire data estate by supporting structured and unstructured data sources. It builds on previous versions of SQL Server, which have been industry leading for four years in a row and a leader in TPC-E. It scales to petabytes of data and allows customers to process big data through PolyBase using T-SQL over any data. SQL Server has also been the least vulnerable database during the last seven years. SQL Server brings data insights with business intelligence capabilities that provide analytics at a fraction of the cost on any device along with advanced analytics with support for R and Python.

More details about SQL Server are available in the SQL Server documentation.

  1. SSMS 18.0 unable to export Extended Events XEL to XEL

  4. Turn off "Completion time" message

Allow users to turn off the "Completion time" that has been added in the messages to track when a given query completed its execution.

I OFTEN use the messages area to print important information that I use elsewhere. This unnecessarily added message causes problems.

  5. SSMS Still Forgets Passwords

You closed this same issue many times as, variously, norepro and wontfix. However, this is a serious, long-standing issue for those of us unfortunate enough to have to manage numerous SQL Server deployments.

This is a known, reproducible issue, as you can tell from the many Google results, as well as the comments on the many reports of this bug you've ignored. Below is the description of the bug from my last report, which was closed as wontfix with no explanation.

SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) has a long-standing bug that you refuse to fix. Below are some of the…

  6. dm_db_stats_histogram missing row when column/histogram step contains NULL

When statistics on a nullable column contain a NULL sys.dmdbstatshistogram will not return a row for the corresponding histogram step (when RANGEHIKEY is a NULL). DBCC SHOWSTATISTICS returns all steps including the aforementioned missing one. Without all the histogram levels dmdbstats_histogram is not usable.

I can confirm this behaviour with INT and VARCHAR columns, I haven't tested other data types). I have attached the reproduction code and a screenshot. Any questions please let me know. Thank you.

  9. SSMS 17.5 Intellisense not working for Azure Server

I am running SSMS 17.5 and attaching to an Azure server with 35 Databases and over 50 users.

If I connect to a local DB intellisense works fine. On the Azure server there is nothing. No Intellisense at all. It is turned on (TextEditor -> IntelliSense -> Enable Intellisense) and working against other servers.

    My questions are:

Could this be a bug in SSMS 17.5?
Is there a setting in SQL server to disable Intellisense queries?

  12. SSMS 17.9.1 Activity Monitor pauses when open Processes tab

When running SSMS 17.9.1 Activity Monitor to SQL Server with around 2100 connections listed in sys.dmexecconnections and 1700 in sysprocesses and 1600 rows in sys.dmexecsessions with an active workload the query Activity Monitor pauses and tracing SSMS using the tracing in Tools\Binn\ManagementStudio\Ssms.exe.config shows a query timeout after 30 seconds:

  13. Too Many Decimal-places in Size (MB) property

The "Size (MB)" property in SSMS reports the size with way too many decimal places if the size is not divisible by 1024. This can make quickly understanding the sizes of your databases in Object Explorer Details frustrating. This is often seen if a database has auto-grown by a percentage value. If a customer wants to see a precise Size value for their database, it is better for them to use a query or possibly the built-in Disk Usage report. Please eliminate the displaying of any decimal values, or at least a maximum of one decimal-place, in the Size (MB)…

  17. Unable to horizontal scroll Results pane via mouse wheel in SSMS

My mouse has a horizontal scroll wheel. I can use the horizontal scroll in the Query pane, but if I select the Results pane, I can't scroll horizontally using my mouse. If I scroll to the left by dragging the scroll bar, and then try to use the horizontal scroll wheel on my mouse, the Results pane snaps to the leftmost position.

  18. Make Scalar UDF with no data access running parallelly

    There are different scalar-value UDFs:
    - (1) Interpreted T-SQL UDF,
    - (2) Natively Complied T-SQL UDF and
    - (3a) CLR UDF with DataAccessKind.None, which is default option.
    - (3b) CLR UDF with DataAccessKind.Read.

For CLR UDF, if its USERDATAACCESS = 0, then its not a parallel plan blocker.
For other type of UDF, even we use WITH SCHEMABINDING option, and USERDATAACCESS = 0, its still a parallel plan blocker.

When selecting events in extended events session properties > events page the events are automatically selected when you hover your mouse over the row. I've attached a gif showing the behavior. I'm not clicking on anything in the gif, just moving my mouse.
