  1. Migration of On-Premise SQL database fails because of encrypted Stored Procedures, Functions, etc.

    Hi,

I'm in the process of migrating an in-house SQL database into Azure SQL and the process fails because of encrypted Stored Procedures, Functions, etc. The database is running on SQL Server 2016.

I've already tried "Export Data-tier Application", "Deploy SQL Database to Microsoft Azure SQL Database..." and "Data Migration Assistant" but no luck.

    Please advise.

  2. Cannot DMS trigger its own backups as needed for online migration?

To avoid shared database folder setup issues (step #4 in the migration activity wizard) let the Azure DMS:
    a) create its own database backup folder (in its own VM I assume) for online database migrations, and
    b) save the required backups from the source SQL Server in this folder

Reason: Currently I found the DMS migration settings in step #4 of the activity wizard confusing and problematic to have correctly configured. With each problem we resolved another one showed up. For example, now we noticed that our source SQL server does not have checksum enabled for existing backups; but the…

  3. Document SQL>SQLMI App credential rights

When migrating SQL to SQL MI online it would be nice to know exactly the minimum rights or custom role configuration and where it needs to be applied in order to effectively migrate. For example you need 'Microsoft.Storage/storageAccounts/listKeys/action' on the storage account, you need Microsoft.Sql/locations/managedDatabaseRestoreAzureAsyncOperation/read on SQL MI etc.

  5. Upload DMA assessment(s) to Migrate Hub using CLI

When you are performing assessments on several instances and you would like to to consolidate the upload to Azure Migrate Hub, it is now a bit clunky. The only way to do it is using the UI and one at a time.
It would be very practical to be able to use the CLI to upload your assessment files. Hopefully this can be done the with the resultfiles for consolidated scaled assessments as well.

  9. Please check if the on premise services are running under domain accounts

ADMS should check if the services are running under special domain accounts in stead of local accounts. Those will be possible blocking issues

  10. Increase the number of sources for migration example Teradata, DB2

Teradata is such a renowned Datawarehouse and so is DB2 a well known database. Please include these sources for database migration. Most enterprises use these systems

  11. Add backticks to FK Name in generated drop FKs script for MySQL

The generated script per https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/dms/tutorial-mysql-azure-mysql-online?source=docs to drop the FKs will fail when the name of the FK has a dot (.) in the name.

  12. Improve Memory-optimized filegroup must be empty error message

Improve how to solve the error message:

Memory-optimized filegroup must be empty in order to be restored on General Purpose tier of SQL Database Managed Instance.

    RESTORE DATABASE is terminating abnormally.

  13. JSONB support for postgresq migration

Currently DMS does not support jsonb data types, we are heavily using it in production and because of this limitation we are unable to migrate.
When will you support jsonb and do you have temporary solution for this?

  14. Documentation improvement: Mysql foreign keys and triggers must be restored after migration

Documentation states that foreign keys must be removed on the azure target and that Triggers are to be disabled on azure target.

But documentation then makes no reference to recreate or activate the foreign keys and activation of triggers.

  15. QUESTION: Can the Mysql Target (Azure) contain read only replicas?

    Question:
I have a running implementation of MySQL 5.7 with 1 master and 2 read only replicas. I want to migrate the same architecture to azure MySQL service. This means migrate to an Azure MySQL Master with 2 read only replicas.

Can this be done with Azure Database Migration Service?

  17. Allow for port of data when moving from smaller data type to larger data type

This is a capability that used to be present but appears to have been removed. I did this several months ago successfully but now the functionality has been removed. I've got a field that is an 'int' in my current database. In the Azure SQL DB that we want to port to, when the schema was being defined, I change the 'int' to 'bigint'. I want the information to port to the new data type so we can use the larger data type down the road. Why was this functionality removed? What will it take to get it working again?…

  18. Azure Managed Instance should allow differential restores

Azure Managed Instance should allow differential restores to make huge on prem databases migration easy. Data migrations service is taking vary very long time to copy, restore and in case it fails for some reason, whole process to be started again which is time consuming and it is not possible for business critical applications to have that much downtime.
