  1. On-prem Linux VMs

Is there a way for on-prem Linux VMs to create the root partition in workbooks?

And can I create new Linux Performance Counters?

  2. Show Updates done by Update Mgmt in Update History on Server

Record Updates that are done using Azure Update Management in the local server's Update History. I expected to see it there and it was missing.

  4. Alternativ Rebootdate and Time for Updates they take long Time

For Windwos Server 2016 some updates tanke longer than 360 minutes to download and install.
it would be greate, to set an alternativ reboot-day and time only if installation could not completed in time.

  5. Show scheduled deployments on the VM if they have been created at the RG level

Currently Update management view against a individual VM only displays scheduled updates if they have been scheduled against individual VMs, if they have been scheduled against entire RGs these don't display on the VMs within the RG.

  8. Add Linux patch details such as version in include feature of Update Management

This is a good request , most customers need make sure test servers and prod servers have the same version installed . However, the latest version may be upgraded in the repository frequently , and when it’s time to patch the prod servers, the latest patch version may be different.

Per my test, we can’t include “version info” in the include list. For example, 'gzip-1.5-9.el7.x8664' is not supported but 'gzip.x8664' works fine .

Also, better if we can cover “package issued date/updated date filter” as well.

There are few articles from redhat which is covering how they do…

  9. Issue with VMs not showing up

Update Agent is 'Ready' in VM view of the machine but it 'fails to list machines' in Automation Account view and 'fails to check for updates' in the VM view.

  10. Machine doesn't have 'Update Management' enabled. Click to manage machines

Upon clicking to manage a new machine, the banner persists in saying that the machine doesn't have Update Management enabled. Click to manage machines. Please temporarily mute that banner if an attempt for that particular machine is pending.

  11. Create filter by schedule membership

In AzureUpdate Management I have got several filter. Missing: I want to see the status by schedule. So at least all systems should by shown by membership of a schedule.

  13. Auto-approve / manually approve updates in Azure

Would be great if we had the option to auto-approve some updates (ie Definition Updates) and manually approve CU's and other patches within Azure Update Management.

  14. Update Staging Server for on Prem Servers

With hundres or thousands of servers that could be patched on-prem the amount of data that needs to be downloaded is alot. A staging server where the patches that are beeing installed will be downloaded to and then the update service connects to the local server instead of azure to download. Not having 1000 servers connecting to azure to get patches and fill up the internet connection.

  15. Wheres the simple configuration guide

We need a simplified guide for update management.

I've been trying to find a way to enable update management, across subscriptions, for both new and existing Vms. So that whenever a new VM is deployed, it automatically onboarded.

Why isn't this the first thing to read in the documentation? Who has got time to go into update management each time a new Vm is depoloyed and onboard it manually.

There must be a way of doing this, but where?

  16. Provide ability to set a specific reboot sequence order

I have a cutomers who wants a few specific servers to reboot before the next few.
I could opportunistically put these in different schedules with maybe 30mins diff, but there is no guarantee that the first schedule is done before the other one is done and suddenly they reboot in the wrong order.

    Could we have this ability?
In ansible I use the serial option so everything is done serially, but it would be nice if update management could handle the reboots serially at least (And check for heart beat after reboot before continuing).

  17. Get members of a Deployment schedule

I would like to generate reports on which servers that are included in my patch groups (deployment schedules). Afaik I can only see this information by querying old deployment history in the logs but not the current members, such as manually added machines.

  19. Update Management has no locking mechanism

    Hi,
during testing I scheduled two deployments for the same server at the same time. It seems there is no locking mechanism (EL7 linux deployment) that takes care of this. I don't think having two updates run on the same server at the same time is a really good idea :)

From ps output it seems that yum locking is saving the system from getting harmed by this, but this is something that I would update management to catch.

    Greetings
    Klaas

  20. Speed up enterprise linux (rhel/centos) updates

    Hi,
currently you're applying individual updates alphabetically (or so it seems from watching ps)
    /usr/bin/python /bin/yum -y install elfutils-libelf-0.176-4.el7.x8664
    /usr/bin/python /bin/yum install --assumeno elfutils-libs.x86
    64
    [,..]

This creates overhead within linux that is usually not needed. You have two options in update management for linux: apply all or apply security updates.
    Both have a yum command:
    Update all packages: yum update
Update all security relevant updates: yum --security update

This will reduce overhead and should apply packages faster.

I didn't find the code, so I am not sure why you use different switches for yum, my guess would be…
