  1. Add Linux patch details such as version in include feature of Update Management

This is a good request , most customers need make sure test servers and prod servers have the same version installed . However, the latest version may be upgraded in the repository frequently , and when it’s time to patch the prod servers, the latest patch version may be different.

Per my test, we can’t include “version info” in the include list. For example, 'gzip-1.5-9.el7.x8664' is not supported but 'gzip.x8664' works fine .

Also, better if we can cover “package issued date/updated date filter” as well.

There are few articles from redhat which is covering how they do…

  3. Update management supports Ubuntu 20x

Update Management doesn't support Ubuntu 20x at present. Can we know any road map or ETA about when it can support?

  6. In the update management, if we could have a column for the status of the VM

In the update management, if we could have a column for the status of the VM like if its running/deallocated. It would be helpful rather than going to the resource and checking the status.

  7. Add Update Management support for Oracle Enterprise Linux

Oracle Enterprise Linux (OEL) is not currently supported by Azure Update Management.

Update Management is an important feature in Azure to patch VMs OS and currently (based on https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/automation/update-management/update-mgmt-overview#clients) the following Linux distributions are supported: CentOS 6/7, RHE 6/7, SUSE 11/12 and Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, 16.04 LTS and 1804 .

This will be beneficial for businesses with heavy Oracle Software presence when they consider Azure as a cloud provider (AWS supports OEL for their Automated Update feature)

    Thank you.

  8. To control defender definition updates using update management "definition update" classification

Currently defender gets definitions on its own schedule and that can not be turned off, apparently. This should be controllable with "definition update" update management classification. As it is, it is not. So, it is not clear even what "definition classification" does at the moment. Make it work or remove it.

  10. Add Linux patching data into UpdateSummary table

Why this table would be for Windows only? It will be useful to have Linux summary there too (total of missing updates etc...)

  11. how to could quick check which VM had the failed KB patch issue

How to could quick check which VM had the failed KB patch in the deployment blade?

From the picture I uploaded, you can see I have 16 VMs did update deployment, but from the left panel, I can see there are 2 VM failed with 2020-10 Comulative KB. But if I want to quickly check which 2 VM failed, I need to manually check them 1 by 1.

Well, I know the workaround is to check it in the UpdateRunProgress table in log analytics, but it is not convenient to check quickly.

Will you think about add sub-tags to the…

  12. In the Azure console we should be able to view more items and sort

In the console its limited to showing only 15 machines and its not sortable by column. This makes it difficult to find things without searching. It should be expandable and sortable.

  13. Update Management - Clear "Failed update deployments" counter

We use Azure Update Manager for patch compliance reporting. Not only is the "Failed update deployments" stated duration incorrect (it should read "out of ### in the past 30 days") it also cannot be interacted with. There is no way to clear the count or add deployment schedules as exclusions. You can't even hide the counter on the dashboard.

Please add some smarts to this counter, or at the very least make it hideable.

  15. Allow view/edit of Pre- and Post-scripts in Update Management Schedule

Not sure if this was something I missed on how to do but there doesn't seem to be the ability to edit an existing pre- or post- script. If I need to change a parameter passed to the runbook then the existing one needs to be deleted and a new pre/post script must be created.
Being able to see the values of a pre/post script already set up would be nice as well.

  16. Add support/feature to invoke a Cluster Aware Update (CAU) run via Update Management

A feature to invoke a CAU run or patch clustered servers not setup for CAU.

Today we use Azure Runbooks to invoke CAUs or we stagger the update management schedule times for each cluster node. It's an ad-hoc workaround and it would be nice if this was something supported out-of-box with Update Management.

  17. Speed up enterprise linux (rhel/centos) updates

    Hi,
currently you're applying individual updates alphabetically (or so it seems from watching ps)
    /usr/bin/python /bin/yum -y install elfutils-libelf-0.176-4.el7.x8664
    /usr/bin/python /bin/yum install --assumeno elfutils-libs.x86
    64
    [,..]

This creates overhead within linux that is usually not needed. You have two options in update management for linux: apply all or apply security updates.
    Both have a yum command:
    Update all packages: yum update
Update all security relevant updates: yum --security update

This will reduce overhead and should apply packages faster.

I didn't find the code, so I am not sure why you use different switches for yum, my guess would be…

Record Updates that are done using Azure Update Management in the local server's Update History. I expected to see it there and it was missing.

  20. Show all VMs, even if they are powered off

Need to be able to see VMs that aren't running everyday. It should still show the status from the last time it reported. This is common when you have lab or other non-prod machines that are running every day.
