  1. Customize Alert Email

Alert Templates should be provided to configure the email subject, body and priority of email. This will help in categorizing the alerts in queues.

  2. App Insight should allow user to decide how often alert email should be repeated when issue is still not resolve and being investigated

App Insight should allow user to decide should alert email notification need to be generated for the same issue or not and how often? Sometimes it takes time to investigate and fix the issue after it gets reported by App Insight alert email.

This is especially important when we have automated process in place to generate a ticket when App Insight sends alert email notification but then ticketing system start creating duplicate tickets when App Insight sends alert emails for the same issue with same subject line until it gets resolved.

Additionally, it would be better if App Insight alert…

  3. Add Alert Rule name or description in the monitoring alert emails

When monitoring alert emails are received from Application Insights they refer to the performance metric and threshold that has been crossed (or whatever has caused the alert rule to be activated)

It would be useful if they also contained the name or description of the Alert Rule as this will often be more immediately meaningful to the recipients - particularly if they are support personnel.

    I've attached two screenshots:

One shows the alert rule configuration - with meaningful name.
And the other shows the alert email received - with just the performance metric described

  4. Alert email to use the name of the alert in the Email Subject

We are forced to give Alerts specific names because they cannot be duplicated, so naturally, we give them names that relate to the resource being alerted against. This "naming convention" is a great help when viewing all active alerts because we can tell at a glance which resource is affected on narrow long screens (90degree flipped screen). But the email we receive does not mention the name of the Alert anywhere. Would be really really helpful to use the Alert name in the subject line, for reading emails from mobile by Subject.

  5. Extend alert setup mask with the possibility to select the aggregation type "max" for a metric

When using alerts in a webfarm scenario, the average aggregation of the metrics to monitor is useless, because significant variations of a metric on one webserver have not enough impact on the aggregated one. The aggregation type "max" would solve that issue.
