Azure Alert Management provides a unified alerting experience across all Azure monitoring services including but not limited to Azure Monitor (Metrics and Activity Logs), Application Insights and OMS Log Analytics with support for third party services coming in future.
Azure Alert Management provides features such as alert correlation and state management.
This forum is to discuss anything related to alerting in Azure.

  1. Activity log alert severity

Currently we can only set alert severity for metric alert and log query alert. For activity log alert, it is not supported to change the severity, and is default to 4 - Verbose. We would like to change the severity of activity log alert as well.

  3. Dynamic tresholds on metrics custom logs

Dynamic tresholds can only be used on the OOTB logs of Application insights. When trying to add them on custom logs, this isn't possible. Only static tresholds can be used there.

  4. Adding more specific failure types as the dimension for synapse workspace pipeline runs

Currently when you try to create an alert for synapse workspace pipeline runs ended, you have three dimensions to be set as the condition, result, failure type and pipeline name. However for the failure type, there are only two types, none and user error. As far as I am concerned, this failure type dimension will be useless if it only has these two categories.
Thus we were wondering if it is possible to add more specific failure types.
Any help would be appreciated! Thank you in advance.

  6. Feature Enhancements - Metric alert multiple dimensions request

    Hi team,

While using Azure monitor during the development, we found there are lots of limitations/by design in the metric alert dimension feature, please help have a look and share with us if any plan to enhance or release the features:

    Background:
Our objective is to try make alerts better by looking at two metrics at the same time. This can be achieved by using ‘Split by dimension’ already available in Azure Monitor.
Both the below options will allow us to configure Azure monitor in such a way that criticality of the alert is decided within and we don’t get…

  7. Assign a specific Azure AD group to be alerted on App Insights alerts

The alerting is somewhat very basic on Azure. I want to setup alerts for a specific Azure AD group, instead of having to create a group to be alerted with the same users I have already added on some Azure AD groups

  8. Multiple thresholds and actions for one alert

Please add the option to define multiple thresholds for an alert that lead to different severities. For example, monitoring a CPU requires a different alert for each type of severity, i.e 70% CPU as sev2 and 90% CPU as sev0 would require two different uncorrelated alerts instead of one. That would facilitate also the action sets and grouping the alerts.

  9. Enable the use of tags on alerts in the Azure Portal

It is not possible to assign tags upon creation of alerts in the Azure Portal (ARM/Powershell does).
It would be great to differentiate alert sets using tags for alert management in the Azure Portal.

  10. ADF pipeline alert configuration- Custom Alert message feature & edit mail configuration

In ADF alert configuration there should be option to customize the mail alerts body. Also there should be option to modify existing alerts configuration-> Email list (currently once mail id is set we can't edit the same)

  11. Allow more values in Frequency of evaluation

Right now the frequency of evaluation is only up to 1 hour. For some of our use cases it's too frequent. It would be great if it allows to select values for every hour up to 24 hours.

  12. Allow every hour aggregation granularity period

Right now the aggregation granularity has very limited allowed values. If we want to aggregate for last 4 hours then its not possible. At least it should be available for every hour period up to 24 hours.

  13. Alert when the VWD session host status becomes "unavailable"

Currently, there is no way to notify the VWD session hosts that their status has changed.
There is a diagnostic data, but it only detects a failed session host connection.
Customers want to be notified when the session hosts status transitions, not when the connection fails.
The reason for this is that customer want to deal with any event that makes a session host unavailable as soon as possible.

  14. Azure Alerts using different time formats (like CEST)

If you use Alerts form Log Analytics for custom logs which are using a timestamp as a delimiter there is a worng concerter of the time format.
    1) the log files are read by log analytics
    2) the timestamp is in cest format and log analytics is using only UTC
    3) alerts are working on utc timeformat also
    4) we have a delay of 2 hours in our alerts because UTC +2hours = our CEST time.

  15. Azure Monitor Alert condition for Backup Protected Item events

When creating an Alert Rule for a Recovery Services Vault, we do not have the option to pick the signal "Backup Protected Item" from the Activity Log and it would be very helpful to be able to generate alerts based off of that event. Or, allow the signal "All Administrative operations" to have the Event initiated by with a filter on "Microsoft.RecoveryServices". Thank you.

  16. Add dynamic alerts for resources without having to create that resource first.

It should be possible to create an alert for future workloads. Currently we can't create a dynamic alert on SQL CPU usage for example. And this is per region we have to create if we want dynamic. If we are preparing a new environment for customers we should not have to create dummy resources just to add an alert.

  17. Add scheduled log search query alert at specific time

We used to configure log search based alerts that done one check diary (period of 1440 and frequency of 1440 )
. For example; backup jobs checks, ADFA
activities and pipelines runs and any other log based check you must need.
If I want those alerts fire at 08:00 o'clock I must set up the alert at 08:00h. This works fine.
It would be great we could set the exact time to launch the query like cron
    or scheduled.

  18. Support the creation of dynamic threshold alerts for Custom Log Queries from the portal

At the moment only Metrics support dynamic thresholds. I have been waiting for this for months! You can do this with DataDog or NewRelic long time ago..

    Thanks!

  19. Allow renaming of alerts

I should be able to rename my alerts. It is beyond belief to me that the name is immutable. I have to hope my colleagues chose exactly the right name as they create an alert, matching the pattern set for other alerts. Seriously, the name of ANYTHING should be easily editable as noone ever gets names correctly the first time.

  20. Allow Alert Rules to be set at the Management Group Level

For scenarios where users need to configure Alert Rules targeting multiple subscriptions, and other large scale scenarios, it would be useful to have the possibility of creating an Alert Rule at the Management Group Level.

Right now Alert Rules can only be created against a Single Subscription.
