Azure Monitor- Alert Management

Azure Alert Management provides a unified alerting experience across all Azure monitoring services including but not limited to Azure Monitor (Metrics and Activity Logs), Application Insights and OMS Log Analytics with support for third party services coming in future.
Azure Alert Management provides features such as alert correlation and state management.
This forum is to discuss anything related to alerting in Azure.

  1. Customize Alert Email

Alert Templates should be provided to configure the email subject, body and priority of email. This will help in categorizing the alerts in queues.

  2. Feature of testing if alert mail or message would be sent correctly in Azure Monitor.

When I create an alert rule in Azure Monitor to send an email, I want to test if the email would be sent and received correctly.

Now, it doesn't seem to have this feature in Azure Monitor.
So it is better for me if there is this feature.

  3. Allow cloning of existing azure monitor alert rules

Most of our alert rules are variants/copies of each other: same alert target, same action group, similar search queries, evaluation logic etc.

It would be great if we could simply clone an existing alert rule (and modify it as needed) instead of creating one from scratch each time.

  4. Multiple target resources

Currently there is possibility to choose only one and existed target resource per alert. It would be very handy if I can specify multiple resource of the same type and also apply it for non-existed resource that will be automatically applied after resource is created.

  5. Support the creation of dynamic threshold alerts for Custom Log Queries from the portal

At the moment only Metrics support dynamic thresholds. I have been waiting for this for months! You can do this with DataDog or NewRelic long time ago..

    Thanks!

  6. Application Insights: Alerts to include optional multiple conditions and CRON time

Add the ability to specify one or more conditions to trigger an alert.

For example, "Availability > 0 AND Function Count > 0" over last 5 minutes.

Also it would be nice to have some alerts running only between specific times hence the request for an optional CRON time (using UTC timezone).

For example, "Alert to run only between 9am - 5pm".

  7. Alert metric Average Response Time does not graph right AND/OR I am getting false sent alerts frequently

Alerts for a sites average response time are constantly hit and there is no conditions to be found... I'd presume its my own ignorance, but the graph says all is well and New Relic says the same when comparing apples to apples. Which leads me to suspect as a tool looking at the past 5 mins as a threshold be is 3, 10, or 60... its simply being thrown constantly and not actually accurate.

See attached. The graphs are showing no such data occurrence. Yet the alerts keep firing off.

Let me know if you need more info. Happy to…

  8. Add ARM template support for Azure Monitor Scheduled Query Rule export when creating an Alert Rule in the App Insights Analytics blade

It would be very helpful when creating an Alert Rule in the App Insights Analytics blade in the Azure portal if we could export the ARM template for the Scheduled Query Rule that's about to be created, similar to the way we can export the "Automation Script" when creating other resources.

This would be useful for helping us automated our monitoring in ARM templates as part of our CI/CD process.

  9. Localization an Alert E-mail

Currently an alert e-mail is in English only. For much more cloud operates can easily understand the alert e-mail, I hope it could be configurable the alert e-mail in each languages.

  10. Azure monitor alert rules should allow importing queries from analytics explorer

It would be awesome if there was a mechanism to allow importing queries from Analytics Explorer into Azure monitor alert rules.

Today, while creating these alert rules, we have to copy-paste queries from analytics explorer. This means one has to (potentially) maintain several versions of the same query.

  11. Support alerting on a filtered metric

I'd like to receive alert by specific api controller response time such as '~/api/viewpost > 3sec'

We can monitor it, but cannot create an alert rule.

This request is similar to the link, and your team closed due to duplicate issue. But the link is broken; https://feedback.azure.com/forums/357324-application-insights/suggestions/9702621-alert-can-be-fired-with-metric-performance-counter

  12. Ability to increase Aggregation granularity (period) to more than 24 hours

Currently the maximum value for aggregation granularity is 24 hours. We have a scenario where we would like to have this number way higher, like 48 or 72 hours. It would be great if this can be made available so that we don't have to look around for other alerting platforms.

  13. More information in Alerts email, Activity that failed, parameters, etc.

I was wondering if it is possible to send more information when a pipeline fails in the Alerts. It would be good to see in the Alert Email, which activity failed within the pipeline as well as any parameters that were passed into the pipeline. This would allow for easier identification of where in the process the pipeline failed, instead of just seeing the pipeline name.

  14. Alert based on "Last Activity Time" for IOT Device

Looking to create an alert that for an IOT Device when the "Last Activity Time" exceeds a certain time threshold.

eg; alert when "Last Activity Time" is older than 24 hours

Would allow us to create email alerts to specific people on particular IOT Devices

  15. Log role deletions to the Activity Logs

Azure Activity Logs record when roles are assigned to users. We should also be displaying events for when roles are removed from users, and the actor who removed the role.

  16. Include subscription name and ID in the budget alert notification email

Include subscription name and ID in the budget alert notification email.
Today it says "Account information" at the bottom section, but below it is blank. Getting multiple budget alert notification makes it impossible to know which subscription it concerns.

  17. Alert rotation on-call scheduling

Would like the ability to set a schedule of which action group gets the alert. This would allow for a rotating on-call response. Action group 1 gets the notification on week 1, Action group 2 gets the notification on week 2, etc. This could also be beneficial for hourly rotation (day shift / night shift). Currently using PagerDuty for this, but the integration with Log Analytic alerts is terrible.

  18. Action group - Let us control name and region for Resouce group

Let us control name and region for Resouce group created along with a Action Groip.

The default resource group created can't be renamed, and the region is hard coded to east us (if I'm not mistaken). It will fail even, if your'e having Azure Policies to block resource group creation in certain regions. There should be better logic involved in choosing default region. Or better: Let us choose.

  19. Alert email to use the name of the alert in the Email Subject

We are forced to give Alerts specific names because they cannot be duplicated, so naturally, we give them names that relate to the resource being alerted against. This "naming convention" is a great help when viewing all active alerts because we can tell at a glance which resource is affected on narrow long screens (90degree flipped screen). But the email we receive does not mention the name of the Alert anywhere. Would be really really helpful to use the Alert name in the subject line, for reading emails from mobile by Subject.

  20. Allow renaming of alerts

I should be able to rename my alerts. It is beyond belief to me that the name is immutable. I have to hope my colleagues chose exactly the right name as they create an alert, matching the pattern set for other alerts. Seriously, the name of ANYTHING should be easily editable as noone ever gets names correctly the first time.
