Azure TCO Calculator

The Azure TCO calculator allows customers to compare on-premises infrastructure costs to potential Azure costs and to estimate the savings they could realize by migrating their application workloads to Microsoft Azure. Let us know if you have any suggestions, ideas or feedback based on your experience using the TCO calculator.
Note: this is a feedback forum and should be used only for ideas and suggestions related to the Azure TCO calculator.

Thank you!

  1. to test your pricing calculator UI before sending it to customers

It's better to test your pricing calculator logic before making it available for users because in Azure Time Series Insights pricing in TIER dropdown shows "undefined: NaN msgs/day, USDNaN/month"

  2. Filter VM types - Export default list

It would be great to be able to filter VM instance, for eg when you only want to see premium ssd disks. Or else to export all VM types with prices etc to excel.
And last, why not to import a design into calculator and get the prices

  3. Improve Pricing Calculator to show clearer Reserved Instance Costs

If you have a compute item with 3 year reservation, firstly, the monthly "effective cost" is shown, not the actual amount required to pay. The calculator needs to be clearer (like the AWS one). Secondly, if you export to spreadsheet, what i assume to be the 3 year upfront cost comes under "Annual payment" and the number it produces is the 36 month cost divided into annual payments, even though the web page says the entire amount is due upfront for the reserved instance?
Also, please make the calculator stop switching the VM type when going between PAYG/1y/3y reservations. It's…

  5. Does the TCO still support bulk import MAP data?

I can't find it now... and I don't want to have to enter hundreds of server specs in there manually...

  10. Bulk Input Keeps Failing with Zero Feedback, Just stops and goes back to page, no output

I see someone else complained about this. Checked their format and it is different from mine (must have evolved since they posted). I used the template from the Help file, attached--should I be dropping it to have just the column headers (there are two header rows in the template)? And I see no way to ask for help other than this Feedback page.

  11. Add depreciation

Add depreciation calculations on the hardware. Tax savings are often used as an excuse to avoid the cloud.

  12. Your TCO calculator doesn't even allow me to enter my current hardware specs

We currently ship servers with 128 cores and 1.5TB RAM. There's no way to even begin entering them into your TCO calculator. (4 processes per node limit? 8 core per process limit?)

Seems like a glaring oversight from someone pushing themselves as HPC specialists.

  13. I cannot input my data for 'On-premices costs'.

I cannot input my data for 'On-premices costs'.

Also, the Export Excel file does not contain any formulas, but only the final values and if you change any digits in Excel, there is no automatic re-calculation.

  16. Doubts around costs assumptions

In Hardware Cost Assumption Tab, we can see K80 and M60 costs. What are about these costs and how can I estimate then?
In Datacenter Costs Assumption Tab, there is a cost called Data center useful life. What unit should I consider here - years, semester or other one?
    Tks in advance!

  18. Prices Suddenly Unavailable

Hello! I am calculating using TCOCustomInput. First I select 1 year timeframe, using US East 2, and then I want to check for 2 year timeframe, at this point I get a message that the prices for the selected region are not available, and prompted to select Central Canada. Why is this happening if seconds ago US East 2 was working?

  19. I am looking for an excel file of this calculator

I am looking for an excel file of this calculator which also has assumptions section. Everyone expects a template and this excel file can unblock all such opportunities for onboarding/migration

  20. Compute type - SQL Server VMs

When choosing compute of type 'SQL Server VMs' in the input, does it consider SQL Server licensing costs or is it just the servers, can you please clarify? What actually should we be choosing in inputs, to get a sense of savings on SQL Server if we move it to Azure.
