Azure Functions

Azure Functions is an event driven, compute-on-demand experience that extends the existing Azure application platform with capabilities to implement code triggered by events occurring in other Azure services, SaaS products, and on-premises systems. With Azure Functions, your applications scale based on demand and you pay only for the resources you consume. Azure Functions provides an intuitive, browser-based user interface allowing you to create scheduled or triggered pieces of code implemented in a variety of programming languages.

  1. I found a bug on Function App Configuration Page

I found a bug in Function Apps configuration page on Azure portal.
There is a spelling mistake of "Capture".
Please find attached screenshot for the same.

Note - I found this on 10-April-19 and asked one of your customer support on chat where to report this, he suggested me to send this on AzurePortalChat@microsoft.com . Later when I didn't get response even after reporting this I sent a reminder for update, then one of the Customer support replied saying this is unmonitored inbox.

  6. Does Continuous Deployment stiil needs Functions Pack (NodeJS)?

I am deploying my Azure Functions by Github, but some documents told me that I should use Functions Pack to avoid cold start problem, especially when I have many npm dependencies. I did not find an answer related to this issue.

  7. Code-To-Function - Specify git location for the function code.

Code-To-Function is idea similar to the Code-To-Container when where Azure function has only pointer to the function code git location.

Additional features could -"well known branches" where master is associated with prod and trunk with pre-prod deployment slots.

The failure of the exxecutin would configurably create an issue in the Git

  11. Application Insights integration with proxies

Currently AI integration is only working for functions, not for function proxies. Therefore 50x and 40x errors from backend services cannot be captured with the likes of Application Insights. Diagnostics of function proxies falls short, Azure Monitor can only be used to capture 50x errors.

Proxies are currently supported, and emit request information to App Insights.

If this is not working, and you do not see proxies requests in the requests view in your App Insights subscription, please open a github bug, as this would be a regression.

    Thanks for your feedback!

  12. Select existing Application Insights ressource on Azure Functions creation

It is a real pain to create a new function using an existing App Insights ressource:
    1. Create function with Application Insights enabled
    2. Wait for the function to be created
    3. Go to Azure functions -> platform settings -> all settings -> application insights
    4. Press "change" to bind the function to an existing App Insights resssource
    5. Go to App Insights
    6. Locate the newly created default App Insights ressource for the function and delete it

  13. Allow customers to select the VM size their consumption plan runs on

It's my understanding functions execute on an A1 size virtual machine, which has 1 core and 2GB memory. The customer has no way of changing this.

Our processing requires a bit more beefy machine as it's CPU and memory intensive. We understand using a dedicated App Service Plan is an option, but we really like paying for only what we consume. Our jobs run infrequently and tend to be on the "longer" end of the run time scale.

I'd love to be able to select the VM size we run on and pay accordingly with a consumption plan.

  14. Triggers for Service Bus Queues should support multiple processes at the same time

If I'm writing into a Queue that has a trigger to an azure function that works as a consumer, I should be able to specify to such azure function how many times it should be run in parallel. That way I can run multiple consumers from a queue a consume it faster.
    Thanks!

Our Service Bus trigger already supports this, and will spin up multiple consumers to read off of a queue. You can also tweak the number of function workers that run on a single host using the host.json maxConcurrentCalls attribute.
    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/azure-functions/functions-host-json

Please open a github issue at https://github.com/Azure/azure-functions-host/issues if your function is not processing multiple messages in parallel. Be aware that you’ll need to add messages at a pretty fast rate to trigger a scale out.

  16. allow function to specified as a value on the exports, not exports directly

Currently, for JS functions, you must assign the function to exports which is of course allowed in node, but is becoming less standard. Allowing a function specification e.g. myfunction that is a key inside an object assigned to exports would be helpful especially with some transpiled languages.

  17. Ability to deploy Azure Function App image from Azure Container Registry using azure-cli

    Cross posted from: https://feedback.azure.com/forums/903958-azure-container-registry/suggestions/32988787-ability-to-deploy-azure-function-app-image-from-az

    by: https://feedback.azure.com/users/742095274-yutaka-takeda

I wanted to deploy an Azure Function App with a docker image stored on Azure Container Registry, or ACR using azure-cli, but I noticed that the CLI command ($ az functionapp create) has an option, --deployment-container-image-name which appeared to only work for Docker Hub.

Since Azure Portal (UI) allows us to pull image from ACR, it would be great if we could deploy the image from ACR using the CLI.

Also, az function create command (azure-cli v2.0.20) did not have the option flag, --deplyment-container-image-name, or -i. I had to upgrade it to v2.0.23 to…

To configure ACR, you will need to use “az webapp config container set” (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/cli/azure/webapp/config/container?view=azure-cli-latest#az-webapp-config-container-set) command and specify the url, username, password of your container. Here is a tutorial to know the exact syntax of these parameters https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/app-service/containers/tutorial-custom-docker-image#use-a-docker-image-from-any-private-registry-optional

  18. Please add a 'Create' or 'Add' button on Function apps page

I wanted to create a new function app. As a new user who has not done it before, I clicked on 'All services' and then selected ''Function apps' under 'Compute'. Function app page opened but I could not find a Create or add button. All that I could see were already created function apps.
I tried the same path for other services like virtual machines and Container services but they all had an option to add a new one.
When I looked at the docs to create a function app, I found that it is achieved by going to 'Create…

  19. Change "last ran" approximation in Monitoring page to absolute time

At present the Monitoring page in the Azure Functions portal shows an approximation of the last time the function was run.
5 minutes ago, 2 hours ago, 3 days ago...
It would actually be more useful to have an absolute date/timestamp there, so that it's easier to tie up with other things, and if you're looking for a particular entry manually, you often know approximately the time it was made.
I know that Application Insights has all this information, but sometimes, a quick look in the Monitoring page for a function is way simpler and faster, than going through all…
