How can we improve Microsoft Azure Stack?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".
(thinking…)

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

  1. Generation 2 VM support

We know that Azure Stack is consistent with Azure and does not support Generation 2 VMs. Only Generation 1 VMs.

Maybe you can something implement like an option / a switch we have today for VM roles in VMM & WAP.

    • Where is SMA in Microsoft Azure Stack?

The Azure Consistent Service Delivery session of Microsoft Ignite 2015 (https://channel9.msdn.com/Events/Ignite/2015/BRK2484) details an overview of the Resource Providers that will probably be part of Microsoft Azure Stack. I'm missing SMA in that list. Will there be a version of SMA in Microsoft Azure Stack, that has a tenant experience consistent with Azure Automation in Microsoft Azure?

      • Bring SQL Databases (MS SQL Database as a Service) to Azure Stack

When is comes to app development on PaaS platforms, Databases and DBaaS are "core" & "can't-live-without".

I see them already included in first release ;)

        • Bring Service Bus (SBaaS) to Azure Stack

Service Bus is a common component in many applications and integrations. Widely used in my organisation.
To have this feature in Azure Stack would be fantastic.

          • Ability of complete Offline Installation of Microsoft Azure Stack TP / PoC

Enterprises with special security requirements, often do not have a direct link to azure.com, which is currently needed in terms of Azure Active Directory in Microsoft Azure Stack TP1 PoC.

Therefore a third Setup method beside AAD and AADChina, namely an integration into an on premise AD would be required.

It is clear, that the whole automation and provisioning process of MAS has to be coordinated with all its components.
But this also could be achieved by provisioning one additional virtual machine via the MAS-PoC-Powershell-Installer, which is a Domain Controller.

            • Bring Application Insights to Azure Stack

APM-tools are crucial in our organisation. An on-prem solution for this is important for organisations that aren't allowed to store data outside on-prem datacenter.

Would be a shame to be forced to use other on-prem software like appdynamics.

                  • Backup as a service for Azure Stack (a.k.a Backup resource provider)

We waited for a backup plugin for Windows Azure Pack, which never came. As a hosting service provider and a large enterprise with dfferent departments to cater, being able to provide backup as a service is key. Please bring this resource provider with GA of Azure stack please!

                    • Single pane of glass. Manage Microsoft Azure subscriptions from Microsoft Azure Stack and vice versa

Since Portal and ARM are consistent across clouds it would be awesome if we can manage an Microsoft Azure subscription from Microsoft Azure Stack (preferably add to ARM like a region). And vice versa add a Microsoft Azure Stack region to Microsoft Azure (preferable as a region in ARM for that tenant).

                      • Redis Cache for Azure Stack

Redis Cache is important part of every scalable SaaS aplication.
SaaS vendors will be able to offer their solution on-premise for big corporate customers willing to use their products behind the firewall.

                          • Bring Azure Resource Manager custom policies to Microsoft Azure Stack

Enterprises tend to have all kinds of policies in place related to conventions. allowedValues for parameters in an ARM JSON template can be easily worked around by using PowerShell to communicate with ARM directly instead of going through the portal. ARM custom policies in Microsoft Azure (https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/articles/resource-manager-policy/) enforces conventions at the ARM level. Please bring the policy capability for ARM over to Microsoft Azure Stack. This is a much needed capability for Enterprises.

                                    • Can you add NVMe as a supported disk type?

I have a Dell R930 machine with 512 GB of memory and 8 NVMe disks but I can't install due to the disks showing up as NVMe.

                                      • Make Azure Stack as a Service directly in the Azure portal

Hosting Azure Stack in our own datacenter is good, but ideally the Azure Stack could come as a service directly from Azure - where we simply use a secure gateway from Azure towards on-premises, and then make local datacenters available for tenants subscriptions as customized regions.
Of course the local regions must support whatever Azure requires in order for this to work, and you can select which kind of resource providers you would like to offer as part of this.

With this approach, customers doesn't have to concern about hardening the Azure Stack environment itself, and can gain from a…

                                        • Desktop as a Service (DaaS) cloud service for Azure Stack

As a hosting service provider (the majority who will use Azure stack in production) and large enterprise, customers wanted the capability to provide Desktop as a service (DaaS) for Windows Azure Pack. We need this cloud service in Azure Stack for GA.
