Azure IoT

This forum is to get feedback on the new IoT services: Azure IoT Hub and Azure IoT suite. This forum will help the engineering team collect feedback from our customers and users and help us understand and prioritize the roadmap.

  1. python SDK bulk operations

There is no option for this moment to register devices via python SDK in a bulk way. In particular there is no crypt generator class that available in c#:

  2. Do not deprecate Operations Monitoring

At present we have operations monitoring in context of what it is for (i.e. IoT Hub) in the portal, but you want to deprecate that for a generic log dump where we have to figure out queries, etc to get any sort of information out of it?!

  3. There are cases where IoT Hub can not move resource group

If I move the IoT Hub of the Free plan to another resource group in the same subscription, it falls under the same subscription upper limit and it can not move.

In order to avoid it, you need to move once to another subscription that does not hold another IoT Hub.

  4. Why do the docs have to be so complicated? Instead of wrapping openssl in a cryptic powershell, just provide the openssl commands directly.

There are dozens of ways to create x509 certificates on the web. No where is there a concise discription of how to create certificates taht will work with Azure Device Provisioning Service. Why does this have to be so complicated?

i wrote this tutorial https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/iot-hub/iot-hub-csharp-csharp-getstarted and next i want to use this ReadDeviceToCloudMessages application on Azure. Is it possible to write or sending this application on Azure?

  6. Cumulative device view

Provide a cumulative device view across regular IoT Devices and IoT Edge devices. Naming conflicts are quite common and the portal does a poor job letting you know that the failure to create the device is due to a naming conflict.

  7. Separate Input/Output metrics IoT Hub and Stream Analytics

Develop email alerts for each input and output in stream analytics jobs. Also email alerts each consumer group if the telemetry drops between the device an IoT Hub.

  8. Interchange of messages between Event Hubs

    Hi Team,

I am trying to build an IoT Build Solution using Azure Service for last one month. As part of this activity, I created event hub, lets call it as EH1 to publish and subscribe through Azure Functions. Everything was working fine until I create another event hub EH2 for sending different set of events from Streaming Analytics Job. Once created, I tried to access the newly created event hub EH2 via Functions. Surprisingly, I was getting messages which were posted to EH1. I am 100% sure the configurations are correct as 2 days I had this issue and…

  9. Azure IoT Edge: Custom communication protocols

Scenario with dozens of industrial communication protocol implementations: plugging additional protocols into Azure IoT Edge must be easy and not requiring code rewrite.
Without this, Azure IoT Edge would be much more expensive and slower to be adopted by partner final customers.

  10. Proxy configuration support for runtime and modules not detailed

Customer needs to configure edge runtime and dependent modules with proxy information. This could be done via runtime configuration; but needs to be documented.

Need clear instructions on module routing and support of routing based on message payload.
Customer expressed need to do messages routing between modules based on message payload.

  12. Failed message send notification

Customer would like a module to be notified if a previous message was unable to be delivered from IoT Edge Hub to Azure IoT Hub

  14. Provide better experience for users when enabling diagnostics

Customer did not notice that the "Location" field was preset for them, and that was why the Storage Account drop down was empty. Furthermore, they suggested that the "Configure" flow should support a "Create New" experience without having to go back through the portal to configure a storage account.

  16. Provide a way to specify container dependencies

Customer wants to specify that the runtime should not attempt to start Container2 until Container1 is known to be successfully started. and is in a good operational state.

  17. The last 25 logs dumped by the runtime might not be sufficient.

The customer noted that the runtime would dump the last 25 logs when a module crashed. However, they might need to see the last 30, 50, or even 100. The runtime was doing a docker rm and docker create before they could review the full logs of the crashed module.

  18. Need an out of box, configurable cache module

Need an out of box, configurable cache module

The customer required a cache module. We've seen this in a multiple engagements. The suggested providing an off the shelf module for this, with requirements to be determined. Their specific requirements were for grabbing the last value pushed through, but they can see the need for sliding windows, etc., for a more generic module.

  19. Edge service logs are not easily understood by new users

Edge-service logs are not easily understood by new users

The warning about multiple device connections was not easily understood by the customer. They were also concerned by the repeated occurence of "device proxy not found" warnings while containers were starting up. They weren't sure if this was going to have real negative impact on the system or was really just a warning. Consider making logs more understandable for the end user.

  20. Edge explorer monitor events does not use the existing edge-explorer login

Why doesn't edge-explorer monitor events use the existing edge-explorer login?
The customer had used edge-explorer login and was successfully issuing edge deployment commands. They felt that monitor events should have been possible without the --login flag - if edge deployment commands could use it, why couldn't monitor events?
