Azure IoT (Hub, DPS, SDKs)

This forum is to get feedback on Azure IoT Hub, Azure IoT HubDevice Provisioning Service (DPS), and Azure IoT SDKs. This forum will help the engineering team collect feedback from our customers and users and help us understand and prioritize the roadmap.

For providing feedback on other IoT related services, please do so on the corresponding forums.

  1. Add the custom domain name support for IoTHub Endpoint

    Hi,

More and more company care about their Brand and specially over the Internet exposure. (for many reason: Marketing, Security (PKI),...).
It could be great to have the ability to use Custom Domain name for the IotHub Endpoint.

  3. Please allow to set 'larger' metadata properties on a device twin

Hello, I really love the device twin concept. It allows us to query devices, use the reported/desired properties, etc. However, I would love to see an extra 'non-indexed', 'non-searchable' section in the device twin that is not limited to 512 bytes.

I want to keep some configuration (a json string) and link it to a device twin. That way, I don't have to foresee external data storage (such as DocumentDb), to save those values and everything could be received through the same SDK. Another option could be to save that larger property as a blob and keep the sas in…

  4. ECC certificats support

ECC (Eliptic Curve Cryptography) certificats have smaller key size and footprint for TLS handshakes providing optimal security in tiny IoT devices. The technology is mature and future proof at the same time.

  5. Add more metrics like failure count, response times, message sizes, count of c2d messages

Add more metrics like failure count, response times, message sizes, count of c2d messages.

It will be great if we can get these metrics without needing a storage account setup (For instance: Azure websites does not need a storage account to get metrics like number of requests, response times, http errors etc).

  6. Add gradle support(native Android) for provisioning

If one needs to do group provisioning/enrollment in an Android application there is no gradle dependency. There is a gradle dependency available for iot-device-client only. Please add gradle dependency support for provisioning.

  7. Add a way to check on low-level AMQP or MQTT connect failures

The problem to be solved is that the attempt to connect to Azure sometimes fails at the low level, and the low level debug messages make this plain, but nothing is communicated back to the high level functions that we are using. (Either they return void, or the cases where they return an opaque handle only fail when something seriously bad happens, like a malloc failure or null input argument.) Examples would be an unauthorized ConnectionString or bad proxy settings. Without this, much time passes until you find that you can’t send messages; that is your clue that the connection…

  8. Java device client - enable blob storage operations with X509 certificate

I noticed that when I use X509 certificate in java IoT Device Client, I am not able to upload file to blob storage. It would be nice to have possibility to do this and not have to create separated connection just for blob storage.

  9. python SDK bulk operations

There is no option for this moment to register devices via python SDK in a bulk way. In particular there is no crypt generator class that available in c#:

  10. Edge explorer monitor events does not use the existing edge-explorer login

Why doesn't edge-explorer monitor events use the existing edge-explorer login?
The customer had used edge-explorer login and was successfully issuing edge deployment commands. They felt that monitor events should have been possible without the --login flag - if edge deployment commands could use it, why couldn't monitor events?
