Lab Services

Azure Lab Services is a service that enables you to easily set up and provide on-demand access to various systems and software for any workload: teaching a class, setting up a development or test environment, or running trials with customers. Manage and scale your group’s resources in lab environments, while minimizing waste and controlling cost. Choose between the two lab types, classroom lab or devtest lab, for an experience that is tailored to your scenario.

  1. Automatically deallocate VMs that may just be stopped.

Add a catchall for VMs that may be stopped, but not de-allocated, to be automatically de-allocated when the specified automatic shutdown time comes. Therefore, saving the end-user some dollars.

  2. RDP Gateway Server

I need the ability to easily set up a lab with an RDP gateway server. I want to use labs in a classroom setting, but all but the primary ports (i.e. http, https, etc) are blocked by my IT department so there's no way to connect to the VMs. Being able to connect through an HTML5 client would also be beneficial.

  4. Artifact Dependencies

Allow artifacts to define dependencies of other artifacts. Example: Have a artifact that uses node.js, would like to be able to require Node.js artifact has been successfully run.

  6. Artifacts installation

Why does it take too long to install artifacts from your public artifacts repo? Is this a consequence of the VM size I created?

  7. Option to add Annotations

We should be able to add comments for the reason of the shut down and which can be seen when the VM is accessed in Azure portal

  8. Customize with region/language for I18N bug investigation

I need a VM installed with Turkish windows settings/region/language. I did not managed to do that with available images/artifacts.
    Is that possible?

  9. autoshutdown manual default value

Oftentimes admin has same single or few needs of values for autoshutdown TZ and hour.
Would be nice to have be able to set default value in webUI (or use saved user profiles if you plan to add more flexibility and choices to that option)

  10. Lab/user policy to deny claiming/unclaiming VMs

Please add the ability to completely disable claimable VMs in DevTest Labs. The feature is abused to generate tons of unclaimed VMs in the lab under VMs-per-user policy.

  11. Progress meter for Dev Test Lab creation

Creating VM's by nature can be slow, seeing progress or maybe diagnostic logs would help elevate frustration when spinning up this product.

  12. The option to suspend auto shutdown for a few hours

It would be a very nice feature to suspend the auto shutdown for a few hours. I.e. when you are working late or have a long running process that you expect to finish a few hours after the auto shutdown time.

  16. Give permissions to Manage Resource Groups Created by VMs in DevTest Lab

When Creating a VM in Dev Test Labs they are created in new Resource Groups. Since Resource Groups can not contained within each other, they are created "parallel" to the Resoruce Group the DevTest Lab is contained in.

The newly created Resoruce Groups should automatically have the same Users with the same Roles assigned to them, so i can manage and configure the RBAC on one Resource Group containing the DevTest Lab.

  20. Adding VNET ResourceId back to VNET properties page

We notice that the VNET ResourceId has been removed from the VNET properties blade. We use the ResourceId as one of the parameters for DTLab creation. There is a workaround to obtain the ResourceId but it takes longer and time consuming.
