Lab Services
Azure Lab Services is a service that enables you to easily set up and provide on-demand access to various systems and software for any workload: teaching a class, setting up a development or test environment, or running trials with customers. Manage and scale your group’s resources in lab environments, while minimizing waste and controlling cost. Choose between the two lab types, classroom lab or devtest lab, for an experience that is tailored to your scenario.

Automatically deallocate VMs that may just be stopped.
Add a catchall for VMs that may be stopped, but not de-allocated, to be automatically de-allocated when the specified automatic shutdown time comes. Therefore, saving the end-user some dollars.

Can you please elaborate on this scenario? If we provide an option to change the sku size (ex. change small to medium/large or vice versa), would that suffice?

RDP Gateway Server
I need the ability to easily set up a lab with an RDP gateway server. I want to use labs in a classroom setting, but all but the primary ports (i.e. http, https, etc) are blocked by my IT department so there's no way to connect to the VMs. Being able to connect through an HTML5 client would also be beneficial.

Artifacts installation
Why does it take too long to install artifacts from your public artifacts repo? Is this a consequence of the VM size I created?

There is no obvious option for starting VMs automatically at a set time each day, yet there is an option for automatically stopping them.
There is no obvious option for starting VMs automatically at a set time each day, yet there is an option for automatically stopping them.
I clicked on the feedback link on the automatic shut down page for a VM, on the Azure portal to get to this page. I don't know why I was sent to a "lab services" page. It seems this feedback link sends users to the wrong place.
1 voteYou have reached the right forum. We recently renamed the forum to lab services, however you can find DevTest Labs category on the right hand side pane.
For the feedback, can you please share what you mean by obvious?
In Labs, you have an option to set auto shutdown for your VM for a specific time of the day everyday.
For auto start, you can opt in to the lab auto start schedule and the setting of the schedule is taken care of for you by your lab owner.Would you like the ability to set a time yourself? If so, can you help understand the scenario for the same?

Don't send DevTestLabs shutdown notifications for production VM's
We are receiving notifications with a subject line of "Alert—Auto-shutdown of virtual machine <machine name> in 30 minutes.
The VM in question is, I am assured by our infrastructure team, in a production resource group, in a production subscription, with a production SLA.
It does have an automatic shutdown configured by some mechanism, but I do not know the mechanism.
Notifications from microsoft should not be stating that this is a notification from DevTest labs, since the VM is not in a DevTest Lab according to the infrastructure team.
1 voteThe auto shutdown for Azure Compute VMs can be disabled and is not something that needs to be enforced on the machine.
If you are the owner of the VM and using it for a production scenario, you should be able to opt out of the shutdown schedule to ensure your VM will keep running. Do you own the VM you are talking about? The shutdown mechanism is provided by the DTL team, however the message should not say DevTest Labs unless the VM is in a lab. Can you confirm if your VM is in fact outside of a lab?
If you are using a DTL VM, it is meant to be used for Dev and Test scenarios only and shutdown can be set at lab level by your lab owner and at lab VM level depending on the level of control you have on setting DTL VM level…

autoshutdown manual default value
Oftentimes admin has same single or few needs of values for autoshutdown TZ and hour.
Would be nice to have be able to set default value in webUI (or use saved user profiles if you plan to add more flexibility and choices to that option)1 voteThanks for your feedback.
Can you please describe your scenario?
Currently, the lab schedule applies as a default schedule for all lab VMs and lab owner can also configure how lab users can set schedules on their VMs through the shutdown schedule policy. -
Lab/user policy to deny claiming/unclaiming VMs
Please add the ability to completely disable claimable VMs in DevTest Labs. The feature is abused to generate tons of unclaimed VMs in the lab under VMs-per-user policy.
1 voteThanks for your feedback.
You can create a custom role in DTL where you can assign lab users custom permissions.
One such permission could be to disable the unclaim option for them. Here is a doc on that: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/lab-services/devtest-lab-grant-user-permissions-to-specific-lab-policies
Does this help?

Progress meter for Dev Test Lab creation
Creating VM's by nature can be slow, seeing progress or maybe diagnostic logs would help elevate frustration when spinning up this product.
1 voteWe do show banners on the UX communicating about the VM creation progress. You can also view the activity log of the VM to track progress.
Can you share where do you currently go to view progress? -
The option to suspend auto shutdown for a few hours
It would be a very nice feature to suspend the auto shutdown for a few hours. I.e. when you are working late or have a long running process that you expect to finish a few hours after the auto shutdown time.
1 voteToday, you can set an email to receive a notification either via email or a webhook 30 mins prior to shutdown of your machine. This notification enables you to delay or skip shutdown for the day.
Is this helpful?

Give permissions to Manage Resource Groups Created by VMs in DevTest Lab
When Creating a VM in Dev Test Labs they are created in new Resource Groups. Since Resource Groups can not contained within each other, they are created "parallel" to the Resoruce Group the DevTest Lab is contained in.
The newly created Resoruce Groups should automatically have the same Users with the same Roles assigned to them, so i can manage and configure the RBAC on one Resource Group containing the DevTest Lab.
1 voteWe have recently released a feature where you can have all lab VMs to be created in a common RG.
