  1. Bastion browser connect from peered vnet

Now that vnet peering is GA we can reduce the costs of having bastions deployed in a large number of vnets and centralise them. We're unable to use browser connect inside the DevTest Labs (DTL) that has a peered vnet that's enabled with Bastion as the button is not present (the DTL can't see the peered vnet that runs the Bastion service). This means the only way to connect to the virtual machines via Bastion is in the virtual machines page that sits outside of DTL.

Can we either like in the virtual machines tab just get the drop down…

  2. Faster Startup Times

We are receiving feedback from students and faculty that long startup times for VMs is negatively impacting their experience. 5-10 minutes is apparently not uncommon.

  3. Add a check box to skip the Auto-shutdown for one time

I believe it would be a easy option to implement (because you already do it when we receive the alert email with the information that machine is going to be shutdown) a check box that user can tick if he wants to skip for just one time the auto-shutdown operation.

  4. Format for VM name

When a virtual machine is created in the portal, the name defaults to to username with an index, but it is a free format field. We have a naming policy on the VM name. It would be helpfull if the default name format could filled in on lab level.

  5. Toggle for reader/owner role on lab level for creating a VM

When you create a VM the creator gets the reader role on the resource group and owner role on the VM. This is not needed

  6. Set expiration date afterwards on a VM

Expiration date can only be set during deployment. When when a new custom image is provided, it would be helpful to set an expiration date on the VM to 'force' developers to use the new image

  7. Auto-refresh vm creation view

The UI does not auto refresh itself to update the status of resources that are being created, so the only way to check if the status a resource has changed is to manually refresh the browser. Please can the view be automatically updated.

  8. Shutdown delay link by one-time in notification email of VM auto shutdown

Resolves an issue where the auto shutdown time is delayed indefinitely by refreshing the delay link in the auto shutdown notification email. Delay links that have already been used must be disposed of.

Currently, more than 5,000 VMs are using the Auto Shutdown function, and more than 15,000 VMs are expected to be used this year. We consider it a very critical issue because we think it is the only way to manage consumption.

  9. Ability to configure lab settings programmatically

Currently there seems to be no way to programmatically (without the use of the Portal by manually clicking) set DevTest Labs settings like:
    - globally setting the Encryption Set
    - enabling Browser Connect
    - defining VM placement settings (in one RG vs. each in separate RG)

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but this is a real blocker when doing the settings as automated as possible.

  10. Include version number used from Shared Image Gallery in the UI

    Posted on behalf of SimonG-2988:
    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/76577/index.html

"The fact that using labs and lab formulas, we can now link to a shared image gallery image is fantastic. But the GUI simply reports that the VM base is the gallery image name - how do we know which version of the image was used (latest or 1.0.3, 1.0.4 etc.)? The GUI is now a little lacking in info. Before, when we had to spin up a VM and turn it into a custom lab image version, the base was reported as the custom image name (which included our image version). Please can…

  11. Deployed resources inherit permissions from DevTest lab

When deploying a resource in a DevTest lab, the permissions applied to the resource groups and resources should be inherited from the DevTest lab (as well as from the subscription).
The permission inheritance flow/hierarchy should be Subscription, then DevTest lab.

  12. Show private repo name in Devtest Labs new environment UI

Right now it shows "Choose a base", then listed ARM template's Name,Publisher, OSType and Type. Type is always "ARM Template", it may not need to be there. I think the private repo's name should be added here.

Reason is we might have templates with exact same name , but from different devops repo. For example, we can have "stage repo" and "development repo" and "master repo" to test different branches in same DevTest Labs.

  15. make GPU VM's available to lab accounts with peering enabled

When Selecting a VM on the lab, GPU ready VM's are not available if peering is enabled. The software on the VM requires a GPU and access to a network license server. This license server is access via the peering. So currently I cannot use the GPU and access the license server at the same time. Can this be fixed?

  16. Other forms of payment be made acceptable

In India not everyone has a credit card and most of those who do, use it in exceptional cases. Can MS provide alternate means of payments other than a credit card, such as debit card or netbanking?

  18. VM disappeared

Last week, I had a Windows VM created for 2-4 days or so. On 2/5/21, I checked DTL and couldn't find the machine anywhere. Not deallocated, claimable, etc. Just gone. The night before, I was logged into the VM when it auto-shutdown.
Does this seem like a glitch? Anyway to trace what happened?

  19. Improved Quota Monitoring

It would be nice to have the option to set up alerts for users approaching or exceeding their quotas. We are finding that students new to the platform are missing the current quota display. Something more visible and also an optional email alert to the lab owner would be great.

Stats on total and average quota usage for admins would be helpful as well when considering whether to increase the quota for a specific user vs. the entire lab.

  20. Better monitoring and reporting at the lab account level.

Getting an idea of overall platform usage currently requires quite a bit of powershell. Things like total users active/registered/invited and total quota usage at the account level.
