Re-instate geo-backup opt-out option for Gen2 DWs
We have several TBs of data in multiple DWs. The critical data is static. The data footprint of the DW grows and shrinks as analytics are peformed on the static data. Once analytics complete, results are exported out of the DW and no longer need to be retained in the DW. Should something happen the DW, all we require is the ability to restore back to the original static data image (any interrupted analytics can be resubmitted). Regularly scheduled geo-backups, snapshots, and restore points provide no benefit to us other than bloating our data storage costs in Azure.
According to Azure doco "You cannot opt out of geo-backups for Gen2 as data protection is a built-in guaranteed." We don't need dynamic data protection on static data. We need the same opt-out option for geo backups in Gen2 as we had in Gen1.

Our company pauses our data warehouses when not in use and we have found that the backups run extremely slow with our data size and if we aren't up 24x7 we won't have usable backups. They tend to always be months old. In Gen1 we simply disabled this feature to reduce the costs. Now in Gen2 we are being forced to pay for these old backups of large data and it will be problematic for us. This is $1,000s per month of useless backups.
