How can we improve Microsoft Azure SQL Data Warehouse ?

[In preview] Database project from Visual Studio to support Azure SQL Data Warehouse

Database project from Visual Studio is useful to manage DDLs, schema compare between the project and database, etc. Please create a project template dedicated for DW or support DW development from Database Project.

It's now been a year and a day since your last post on this and there is still no way to use source control with Azure SQL Data Warehouse. Can we please have an update?

  • Jim Paton commented  ·   ·  Flag as inappropriate

Any chance of an update as to what's happening with this? It's been nearly 12 months since it was moved from planned back to under review, and absolutely nothing since...

Agree with all the sentiments here. How can you attract Enterprise developers to this platform without enterprise tools being able to manage it?

  • Chi Huynh commented  ·   ·  Flag as inappropriate

Can you please share an ETA for this? It is a real pain trying to keep the repository and the database in sync.

PLEASE do something about this. Developing for Azure DW is a nightmare without this. Why is this such a low priority?

  • Ethan DuBois commented  ·   ·  Flag as inappropriate

Another vote in favor prioritizing this. Inability to manage code through Visual Studio means more risk, more complicated source control and a much more complex deployment process....please get on this!

Is this available yet. It would be very helpful as we try to set up and manage our data warehouse.

I think this needs to be prioritised as I am struggling to sell Azure DWH owing to DevOps challenges!
    It's simply not dev-friendly although it's a great product!

Really disappointed that Microsoft haven't considered the developer story for Azure DWH.

In the age of DevOps, it's feels like a backwards step moving to a platform that does not have any method of source control.

We are also urgently waiting for this feature. Are there any updates or a concrete timeline? Or is this a signal that the Azure DWH project will not be continued?

you know what, i'd be willing to scale back this request a little bit, and just go for some sort of ability to do some schema comparisons / generate change scripts, urgh!

Please make sure you include schema compare and data compare. Data compare is helpful when migrating from SQL Server to SQL DW.

Would be great to get an update on this, as we are looking to roll out Azure DW, and manual version control of the schema is not ideal.

We are also waiting for this feature to enable. Please let us know , if there is any update?

We too have recently run into this issue when undertaking our new Data Warehouse build on APS. This issue is compounded by the fact that Database Projects work on the SMP part of the APS architecture but not on MPP, making it a confusing decision whether to drop Visual Studio for deployments all together. As a result we are having to invest a significant amount of time in developing our own deployment tool. A solution to this issue in the near term would be much appreciated!
