  3. synapsesql(formerly sqlanalytics) supports append and overwrite write modes

synapsesql(formerly sqlanalytics) write API needs supporting savemode as append , overwirte (drop and create )to work even if exist dedicated SQL Pool tables.
This feature is a must for ETL workloads

  4. Show Dataframe Schema in the Cell Result

In Databricks notebooks, when you execute a cell with code to create a Dataframe, you get to see the schema of the Dataframe in the cell’s output. Although we can always run printSchema() on the Dataframe, this feature comes in pretty handy (one less thing to worry about).

  5. Add ability to import Databricks Notebook

As a Data Engineer, I want to import my existing Databricks notebooks directly from a Databricks workspace and have that have it converted to run on Azure Synapse.

When the notebook imports, references to incompatible features should either be
    - commented out, indicated as incompatible features, and have links supplied to documentation for the synapse equivalent

    OR BETTER YET

    • provided with a wizard to handle the setup of the workaround

    For example:

Notebooks reference existing schemas and tables, so enable automated import of schemas and external table definitions from a running databricks’ hive meta store.

    External tables reference storage so…

  6. Use browser notifications in Synapse studio windows to signal end of execution and tasks (notify users)

For lengthy operations (configurable?) add support for native browser notifications, so instead of users wait and/or constantly peeking regarding a running cell/task, they can switch to other thing and be notified when that ends (success or error),etc

Could be extended to any lengthy operation, constant peeking rather unproductive.
similar extension for native jupyter (triggered on kernel becomes idle after configurable time)

  8. LaTex strings in code-blocks of Azure Synapse Notebooks

Currently, the notebooks in Synapse do not support direct display of LaTex strings in Python. We need to attempt a workaround using HTML displays as suggested in the Q&A post here ( https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/314896/latex-display-for-mathematical-equations-in-synaps.html ).

It would be really helpful if this could be achieved with using something like IPython.Display package or any other LaTex visualization techniques.

  9. separate user output from system logs in drivet logs

Currently, user stdout and stderr are pushed to driver stderr. Given hundreds of K lines with system warnings, errors and status updates, it's very difficult to find cell output in the logs. How about separating?

  10. Allow Notebooks to connect to Integration Runtimes

I would like to query on prem sources though a JDBC connection in a python notebook. I can do this through my Copy Data task because it points to the runtime that gives me access to my on prem source. My notebook on the other hand thinks that my database is always available through the open internet and there is no way to point it to the runtime.

I'm not sure if this is technically possible...

  15. T-SQL notebook

Why can we not have T-SQL notebooks?
With Azure Data Studio T-SQL notebooks have been becoming very popular. Loved to have the same experience in Synapse Studio as with SparkSQL notebooks.

  16. Scrolling in Synapse Spark notebooks

When doing notebook cells the newest cell is usually at the bottom of the page. In other editors (like Databricks notebooks) it is possible to "overscroll" the final cell a bit, meaning you can push it further up the page. However, at least when using Edge, the Synapse Notebook does not scroll further, leaving the final cell always at the very bottom of the page. This is quite annoying when typing new content. I can of course make the browser window smaller, but it isnt very convenient either. It would help a lot if the bottom cell could just be…
